Handle every stressful situation like a dog. If you can't eat it or hump it, piss on it and walk away!

Excellent, glad the Cosworth baffle plate works mate, looks like it may be prident for me to fit one on the Impreza if it works well, as its a cheaper option than the full sump baffle.

I will let you know how well it does at controlling the oil - will be easy to tell if it is working for me. If it does work then yes, it seems an ideal solution.

Preparation for Knockhill

Post by duncan »

Review of Round 1 is here:

http://www.bigpower.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?t=6272

Back to the project though as it was never going to be fully complete for this one as time and budget would not allow this let alone the issues that tried to put spanners in the works in the lead up to it.

Fuel surge was not fixed in time for this and had to run a full tank of fuel at each session to try and avoid - not ideal carrying 55Kg of extra weight around. This will be fixed for Knockhill.

Oil Surge - almost solved but need to move the catch can to a higher and central position in the car to avoid oil being pushed up the sump drain pipe on long right handers.

Apart from that there are a few issues that need solving for the next one. The to do list is looking like:

Definite:
1. new or repair turbo or find the cause of the smoke
2. fuel swirl pot and additional fuel pump
3. relocate oil catch can
4. more rear camber needed with some adjustable rear arms
5. some more mapping to get this finished
6. change all IC clamps for heavy duty ones
7. weight savings

Possible:
1. some more aero improvements
2. stiffer ARB's

I think you deserve a pat on the back Dunc. A great deal of the work carried out on your car has been done by your goodself, the fact that you also map it yourself is a real credit. Also, the way that you dispensed with half of your oil in an aid to save weight only proves to me your dedication :o

I do suggest removing half of the fluid from the other end of the car may reap more success though

An update as to the state of your Motor:

The turbo is off and as we thought it has pooped the bearings. Luckily they are relatively cheap to rebuild. We have a few options here before Knockhill.

Engine sounds fine but the compression, oil, filter, sump & rod play will all be checked. Hopefully we will not need to remove it.

 thanks Jase.

Fingers crossed that the oil test and other checks turn out good so that I can give Mike a run for his money :D
