JISC championship, not understanding

Post by carlosrex »

Sorry guys i know this has probably been asked a million diferent ways a million times, but i really dont understand how this all fits together. I see this JISC series with the provisional dates, but there seems to be other sprints going on too? Whats the difference, are they different championships?

I'd like to do one, but wanna do the whole thing if you know what i mean - and im not confident right now that i know enough about this all to make sure i compete in each round of one championship (rather than 3 rounds of 4 different champs etc lol)

are there are concrete dates for the JISC? Is there a proper web site we can visit that has all the info, or is that this forum?

Also, i need to get hold of all the kit i need. I've done nothing at all so far except send off for my license, so i take it i now need to:

get membership to HCC
Buy helmet
buy race suit.

Anything else? And can anyone help with choosing my equipment, as nowhere i look seems to list what standards the helmets and race suits meet?

Is there anything ive missed? and can anyone link me to a reasonable priced race suit and helmet that'll be fit for purpose? (i dont mind spending

i belive jisc dates have not been confirmed yet but sure they will be posted up on here as soon as they are, if you get all your stuff together (helmet, overalls, race license, hcc membership) why not come to the north weald sprint on the 6th of april just for a taster, im probably going just for the experiance and im not in any of the championships for that day ( still trophys for the day though i recon)
as for a race suit/overalls i got mine from aws in kent , they deliver and are very good quality for the price i only bought a proban clubman suit for about
Small one's are more juicy

Carlos

If you get your bits as said above, and you are a member of a MSA Motorclub you are entitled to enter all Sprints that the club are affiliated with.

So with Harrow CC you can do almost all Sprints in the South East and Midlands.

Basically there are quite a few different championships that you can register for or you can just turn up to individual events and enter them.

Have a look here for a good calender of events:

http://www.aemc.org.uk

As Tk says, get an entery for North Weald next weekend if you can get your helmet and overalls sorted, its a good event to get a feel for what goes on and there is loads of run off so its fairly safe. And myself, TK, ESL will probably be ther so we can help you. Basically its not as scary as it all sounds. The officals etc at the events are all usually very friendly and helpful to your questions.

I have a Proban suit and a Sparco Jet helmet that was

It states in the MSA Blue book the actual standards that are accepted.

Will have a look later and post up tomorrow if someone else doesn't.

We going to see you out Sprinting Lee??

Thought we'd been through all this here:

http://www.bigpower.co.uk/forum/viewtop ... sc&start=0

Best thing, don't worry about championships in your first year, there'll be enough going on as it is. Enter the JISC by all means but don't worry about it.

Just get out and do it. :)

Where do i get a timing strut?

Not sure what class ill be in mate, car is as follows:

92 RX7 twin turbo, 1.3 on logbook, 2.6 on insurance
rolling roaded at 319bhp at the wheels
michelin pilot sport 2 tyres on 18 inch rays wheels
coilovers
uprated anti roll bars
race rad and intercooler, v mounted
Cobra suzuka S seats with 6 point harnesses

Thats the basics of it, theres a lot more but nothing that i think would matter (passenger footwell mounted battery, vented bonnet, AP 6 pot brakes etc etc etc)

What class would i be in do you think?

And re: whoever said we've already been through this, we kindof have - and what was said may look simple to you guys, but to someone whose never entered an event in their life its all still very daunting and hard to piece together the dribs and drabs of information from different people into the big picture! What i personally would like is a step by step guide to entry for people who have never entered any events before and are members of no clubs.

I think i get it now though. As i say, im waiting on my license, so i guess now i just need to sort out lid, overalls, timing strut (not sure where from) numbers (can i just write them in big on a white piece of paper and tape them on?) and then join HCC.

What happens after that, do i have to pre-register for events or do i just keep an eye out for the dates and turn up on the day?

Don't think ill be able to do the 6th im afraid, not any of my bits yet so i think time is against me on that one. Plus its my birthday.

Thanks for all the help guys!

Carl

in terms of what to buy I would make your first phone call Alyn at ASP

http://www.asptrading.co.uk/acatalog/asp_TRADING.html

Alyn is a great supporter of the forum and very knowledgable in terms of kit and quality.

For most of the things you have asked, look here

Best of luck

Carl,

When your licence arrives, it'll have a MSA rule book with it, otherwise known as The Blue Book. It gives all the rulings for the different motorsport disciplines. Trouble is, the way it's laid out, it's not easy to follow.

Get a membership application off to Harrow Car Club. Without a club membership, you can't get an entry.

Sort your overalls & helmet. Give Alyn a call as Stu suggests is one way but if you're not sure of sizes, try to get to a shop and try them on. Overall sizing is at best, a guess. Same with helmets so thebest way to be sure is try for size & fit. Helmet wants to be a snug fit, overalls a bit on the loose side, for ease of movement. Prices vary enormously so if you're not sure you'll stick with it, go for a single layer Proban suit.

Timing strut will be detailed in the blue book. It only needs to be a flat piece of plastic or thin metal that projects from the front of the car so it hits the timing beams first. I made mine from an old metal shelf, so I ended up with a L section. The short side of the L is screwed to the bumper and the long side sticks out forwards. Can of matt black paint and it's done.

As for class, I'm not sure about your RX7 as the engine size is so small. The class sizing, for turbo engines, is +50% so yours would be 1.3 + 50% = 1.95Litre so you'd be under 2L class i.e. class B2. But, I'd be inclined to check with a scrutineer first. If you enter as B2 and they don't like it, they'll only put you up a class to B3, so no big deal, you won't get sent home.

You can enter the B classes, which are for road going cars if,
The car's road legal, tax, MOT & ins. will be checked.
Interior trim is intact.
Number of seats are as original. You can have non standard front seats.
Main chassis and suspension configuration, i.e. original suspension pickup points.
Door glass and operating mechanism as standard.
Tyres must be on list 1A. The blue book has two lists of tyres 1A & 1B, roadgoing can only have tyres in the 1A list.
Engine, gearbox & diff types and locations must be original type & position.

If it's still not clear, there's a sprint at North Weald on 27th April. A few of us will be entered, if you're not confident enough to enter, ask us for a pass and come down for the day. Get there early come and say hello, so you can see, first hand, the whole process. Signing on, scrutineering, timing struts, numbers etc. and ask lots of questions.

Then you can get a May entry with a bit of knowledge of what to expect.

Thanks for the help guys! Much appreciated.

Ive had a chat with Alyn and he is telling me that the suits have to be FIA approved, however - the proban single layer is not?

Will these be ok?
