I kept breaking mine too And as we all know they are pain in the ass to work on. (Evos are much, much easier)
In the end it had to go after its 3rd engine :lol: :oops:

Was thinking teh Citroen could be the next Sprint car, its been there through thick and thin when the Imprezas been broken....never let me down yet, and has 157k on the clock now!!!

Hmm, see this is where I am coming from, not sure I could handle another engine failure. Why did your keep going pop, were they forged builds?

That was back in the days when forged builds were very expensive, ECU's were shite, and mappers had limited knowledge and it was all quite experimental. I used to run a 10row Link ecu which I think was most of the problem. 400bhp then was ground breaking stuff Amazing how things have moved on in only a few years.

Both engine failures were pistons melting IIRC. I have been trying to forget tbh!!

The other option is to buy a Formula Ford and go racing.........probably as much fun if not more than Sprinting.

Whats the most gutting is I was fully revved up to have a good crack at the Sprint Championships and now all the wind has been knocked out of my sails.....

Racing is a different kettle of fish though. Higher highs, deeper lows. Thinking back to my bike racing days (2000-2003), the low points were similar but lower than your feelings now. Having put big effort into sorting the racing machine through the winter, you crash or it blows up and it all needs fixing again. In the case of bike racing you've likely got bruises or broken bones too. The crash wasn't necessarily your fault but the job of fixing it is all yours. The highs are spectacular though. Racing wheel-to-wheel is just the most intense thing I've ever done and probably ever will do.

If I had the money and could commit 100% to it then I'd do it again, but on 4 wheels this time. I looked at stockhatch a year or two ago, which is not much more money than bike racing, and have wondered about bike-engined kitcars. The latter is something I'd like to build in the next couple of years, but whether I'll race it depends on circumstances...

Cost of sprinting should be lower than racing, as Andy says, but sadly a single engine rebuild can blow those sums apart.

Funnily enough I did think to enter the Xantia 60% off for diesel + 40% for turbo could be a laugh.

Spent today fitting new glow plugs and quite honestly I'd rather work on a Subaru.
