My 106 Rallye project/trackcar

Post by chris c »

Yes im aware this may not be Bigpower in BHP, but sure is fun!

This is the story so far in short!

I picked this 100% standard 13 year old 106 Rallye in mat time last year, it had sat in somebodys garden for nearly a year with seized brakes no tax or mot, but had very good bodywork apart from being faded.

the first job was to get it trailored to my grandparents, so i could rob their garage! then started to wash the mould off it!

the standard 100bhp 1.3 8v engine ( pitty i killed the bottom end but more of that later)

and the bloody rude boy wiring had to go!
Image

after getting a mot on its first mission was a blatt around Castle Combe still 100% standard

and going in to Quarry alittle to fast

a bit of interior weight removal was next on the cards along with a 4-2-1 Manifold

Sadly a few weeks later i killed the bottom end on the standard 1.3, about 4 minutes later i decieded on more power!

I bought a Complete 106 GTI 16v engine/ecu/wiring loom from ebay, and borrowed a ramp at work for the day. I did cheat and sent the wiring looms away to be sorted as it can some be a headache

condsidering i have very little mechanical experience i removed the 1.3:)

This then left a empty engine bay that was really grubby. I forgot to take a pic after i cleaned it.

I then lifted the 16v in from the bottom using the engine crane.. not sure if this is the correct method but it worked fine
Image

then broke the gearlinkage and fitted the clutch linkage and finished of today with a few more pics

Result! One finished 16v conversion completed by me

After this, the standard suspension and brakes did not really cope. So i raided the piggybank again and bought a set of 266mm brakes from a Peugeot 206 GTi that just fit under my 14" wheels. Then Suspension wise a full Bilstein group n damper kit and eibach springs turned up a few days later..

Still looking standard but now quite a sleeper!, with some more weight removal and 1 sparco seat it now weighs in a 781kg with 136bhp, and hit a 14.78 1/4mile @ 95.23 MPH at its last outing at Santa Pod

The spec has not really changed much, but the Car has seen quite a few miles around Cadwell twice and Snetterton in January 2008.

If any of you have bothered reading this far, well done!

Cheers Chris

Well its up for sale, but im not too fussed if it sells or not..Just dont think i can justify just having it sit in the garage for the odd trackday now due to the Impreza running costs!

Love it! How much was the 16v engine and loom?

Just out of interest, what sort of price would you be looking for?
