254 still TK.

If you ebnd it out of sheet ali then just mount it to one of the numberplate holes if you can take it off quickly.

I had a spare fog cover and bolted it to that, but its knackered from my incident last year, so i have to bodge something together tomorrow.

Couple of self tappers through to the bumper for me, but never have been accused of finesse :D

If you still have a top mount and your bumper's intact, you may be able to tie wrap it to the horizontal bars. Fog light cover sounds good.

My car has just shown up. There were a few last minute issues. Bottom water pipe on the turbo split (would be the awkward one), clutch flexi split and another job for me tomorrow, one of the crimped connectors to the oil cooler has started to leak. There's a bloody long length of braided hose and a couple of bags of Aeroquip fittings in the boot for the DIY job.

It's being valletted tomorrow afternoon too 8)

Well chaps. Sorry to say I won't be joining you tomorrow. Having waited for the season to start, I just took the car out for a road test, for the first time since October and I think the head gasket has finally given up.

It first showed signs when being mapped for the first time with the green in place. Zak was returning it to me and mapping on the way when it hit 1.8 bar. Since then, I'm told, it's shown a couple of times at reduced boost pressure so was limited to 1.3 bar.

Had a little play through some country lanes and then a couple of overtakes on an A road. Suddenly started vibrating with plumes of smoke out the back. Nursed it home feeling a cylinder or two down. Checked the oil, which is OK but the expansion bottle is full with a few bubbles.

Bollocks! I'm really pissed off :x

Anyway, you guys have fun tomorrow and I look forward to hearing about it. May pop down if I get the chance.

I had a feeling you'd come up with that sort of suggestion Andy Thank you :D

I'm afraid I'll have to decline. Firstly as my motivation has just dropped through the floor but more importantly, if I drive your car it'll just demonstrate how much better a driver you are than me :o

I'm going to spend the day doing some of the little, tidying jobs on the car, I also need to take a look at the Xantia (did think of entering that for a laugh) as the handbrake ceased woking a week or so ago and it's not easy driving it like that.

OK, here's testimony to my mechanical sympathy that you lot pooh pooh! The engine went into the car 3.5 years ago. It's all standard internals and heads. I used it as a daily driver for eighteen months until the Type R gearbox made it too uneconomical. In that time it clocked up 40K, mainly road miles but a fair few track days and sprints so it's done 45 - 50K (must get a working speedo).

OK it uses oil (somewhere) but all that's gone is the head gasket and it was 1.8bar boost that, not surprisingly started it on it's way.

Big decision now. Do I just replace the gaskets, have it stripped with new shells, forged pistons and rods, go for a Dynamix type build (which I can't afford) 2.35 cdb & stroker engine that's up for sale?

Whichever way it'll be silly money I don't have  :vsad:
