Almost Ready?

Cage was welded in yesterday. Glad I didn't try to do it,the floor's as thick as double strength kitchen foil so welding 4mm brackets to it was a real pain.

I now need to get the underside protected with something as it'll rust through in no time. The roads were salted last night and I have a mapping sesion today for the Simtek.

Also need to get a couple of spreader plates for the 6 point harness crotch straps and it's almost there. Next is tart up the bodywork a bit and cover last years scars. Oh and some yellow tape for the battery lead, get the headlights working, get the front pass. window to work, get the n/s rear pass. door to open, and a load of other things that are suddenlt springing to mind.

Best get stuck in :roll:

Good stuff Gerry, any pics of the cage install??

My list has suddenly grown as well:

Fit new dowpipe
New gasket between centre and back box to fit (leaking)
Seats to be trimmed round cage
Door bars to be fitted and padded
Steel wheel nuts to be ordered
Fix blowing IC pipe
Flush and bleed clutch fluid
Flush and bleed brake fluid
Oil and Filter change.

1.5 weeks to go :!:

Ah-ha, Logan - I need open-ended wheelnuts too. What are you ordering?

[think my Rota wheels need a different angle to the standard nuts tho...]

My list is a long one too, but I'm not starting in 1.5 weeks like you, and I'm taking it in 2 stages:

1. Handling and stopping
Coilovers and front brakes fitted at weekend and aligned at Zen this morning. All good.
Rear 2-pots to fit (having trouble with corroded brake line fittings...)
Also have 22mm adj rear bar, ALK and droplinks.

2. Engine
Pretty modest aims here, on standard turbo and TMIC.
Got Walbro 255, Apexi PFC, decat and panel filter.
To get before mapping - exhaust midsection and ported headers/up-pipe (got a line on s/h items), fuel reg possibly, new PFR7B's.
Need to fit EGT, oil temp sender and charge temp sender also.
May get later AVCR, Datalogit and catch tank/return.

Feels good to have got started. Up til last weekend I just had a standard(ish) car and a big pile of bits in the workshop!

You don't need open ended nuts specifically, just can't be aluminium ones! If you want some, i can order 2 sets to save on postage and i can give them to you on the 16th march??

Just remembered, I am going to SCA in Norwich Saturday so will see if they have any there first before ordering any!

Ok, will check the angles tonight. Thought they had to be open-ended so the scrute could see the length of the bolt?

(am waiting for license at moment so don't have blue book yet)

Andy, below is the wheelnut rule:

Nuts securing road wheels, except those of centre lock type must be made of steel and have a thread contact over a minimum length of 1.5 of the bolt/stud diameter. Extended or composite wheel bolts-studs are not allowed.


So if you have normal closed steel nuts you are fine

Might replace the set that go with my Rotas at some point though, the chrome has chipped and they've a bit ugly with rust!
