With my previous Impreza I deliberately went for low unsprung weight. Potentially better suspension action, as Dunc says, is one action; another is better acceleration if the wheels/tyres are light. I didn't do any engine tuning on that one, but it still went v.well on trackdays.
Will have a read of those links, thanks Dunc.
I'm sticking with most of the same components on the '98 STi I've got now. Rays 16" forged wheels (saves a few kg per corner), ally 4-pots and 2-piece 278mm disks (5kg each side), rear ally 2-pots, and coilovers (~3kg per corner saved).
Fitting brakes and coilovers this weekend, so I'll do a few comparative weights. The standard pig-iron brake calipers are massively heavy!

Unsprung weight, how much diiference
For what it's worth, when i had all the standard Brembo kit pulled off my Evo the whole lot front and back including pads, discs, lines & calipers weighed a whopping 44kg (yes, forty four!). Front discs were 320mm, rears were 300mm and had 4 & 2 pot calipers respectively which i believe is very similar to the Scoob set up.
I couldn't believe it so i weighed the whole lot again to check. The front discs weighed the proverbial ton which is why i think a lot of the after market stuff have aluminium bells.
cheers
