Thanks guys
Have just been out and done another compression check and now back to square one, have compression on front two of 110 and 112 but both 3 & 4 are showing 70 so despite all my thoughts that the bottom end looks good It would appear I may be wrong.[:(!]
Will be putting bit of oil in the cylinders and checking compression again to make sure this is the case.
Think prob as the carbs were run with no filters maybe something has been sucked in and messed it up somehow.
Now have three options
1.find a new bottom end
2. rebuild current one
3. buy new engine to run till June and rebuild current engine fully so that when she is all welded and painted then can put equivalent of new engine in.
Will keep you posted.

I would stick a Rover V8 in it. Job done 8)
Not really sticking with the keeping it as close to original as possible though!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!ScoobieWRX wrote:Rover V8 is a bit soft(actually that sounds like a cracking idea and plenty available)
How about a Lotus Carlton and be done with it!! :P
