Be interesting to see your feeback "if" thats the one your getting! My ole Gems is okay but I have used the car a coiple of weeks for work and the cold start etc is not very friendly!
It's not secretive just not 100% I'd like to do away with the MAF for one thing as it and the ABS take up so much space they prevent me sorting a decent cold air feed. Had a quick word with Steve Simpson and, other than sounding a decent sort, the ecu sounds about right.

Anyway, as Dunk said, "End of Hijack" Sorry Trev :D

on the phone to alyn at asp saw me a few quid lighter today but very cheap with delivery aswell , top guy and recon they will be with me tomorrow ,

dyno day at APT was a disaster for me and only managed 1 run and told its running seriously lean at about 13.5 whatever that means :? but i was expecting this to be honest which is the reason why i took it up there to find out.
so due to my car running lean i have bought a new 255l walbro fuel pump and told by alyn to check the feed to it aswell as these often get corroded and lower the power,

also on order is a set of new rear discs and pads

so looking forward to SAFE power !! and start enjoying the car

Best bet is to hard wire the fuel pump to the battery. car did look nice sun.

13.5 is seriously lean under power. Mine's in the 11s or even high 10s.

Do yourself a favour Trev and get a Knocklink, it'll alarm you to any det from lean running and is a LOT cheaper than another re-build. Piece of P to install too.

Fuel filter OK?

Well worth doing - 13.5:1 is way too lean to be safe. As Gerry says I map mine to 11:1 give or take a bit for safety.

A det alarm or knocklink would be a definite safety net too.

Is your Apexi or std ECU ?

Yup, Trev, if you fuel filter is a gold one, then it could be the orginal from Japan, and a new un is only circa

i plan to get a knocklink soon to be safe i cant afford another rebuild just yet

im running the standard ecu duncan (hopefully to be changed later in the year)

and im pretty sure i had the fuel filter changed last time i had it serviced before engine problems but will check tomorrow

another one of my problems is my boost is going up 0.2/3 bar before settling at 1 bar ,im sure it never used to do this so something else i have to sort out but i have not got a clue about this , im guessing it could be either actuator or boost solaniod thingy , maf is brand new so cant be that

BTW, the 13:1 is the Air/Fuel ratio so 13 parts air to 1 part fuel. Idle and gentle cruise, off boost, is 14.7ish:1

As the engine loading increases and the turbo is producing boost, the fuel side of the ratio needs to be increased to help keep things cool. There's other factors involved but in simple terms (which is all I can understand) :D

So, if your last engine blew due to lean running and all you'e done is rebuild the engine, you probably still have the lean running problem. First time my car went on the rollers, failing fuel pump was diagnosed. The guy disconnected the return from the fuel regulator to see how much fuel wasn't being used and was returning to the tank. He directed the return hose into a can. Nice flow initially and as the car was running up, but suddenly as the engine was under hard load, the fuel flow just reduced to a dribble and stopped. Good indicator that the pump wasn't delivering enough.

The slight overboost may be oil has got into the boost solenoid (and overboost will make worse the lean running det.) Also, if it gets any higher the ecu will cut the fuel to save the engine (or so it thinks) this means that you are going at a nice pace with WOT when suddenly you hit the ecu threshold and get fuel cut. The car feels like it's hit a brickwall momentarily till the boost drops and away you go again. Trouble is WOT with a lean mixture anyway and suddenly getting, what fuel you do have, cut off you'll get serious det which can burn a hole in the pistons and knock out your new bearings.

Sorry to go on but it is pretty serious :D

Anyway, you could try cleaning out the boost solenoid and pipework with some aerosol brake cleaner. Find the two green ecu connectors under the dash, ignition off, join the connectors, ignition on and you have a sensor check mode. The fans run and a few other things happen, can't remember exactly, but you'll hear the boost solenoid clicking open/closed. While this is happening, squirt the cleaner into one side and it'll clean through the valve. Clean the pipework too.

The sump may have been overfilled, or filled to the max when it was rebuilt or serviced. This can cause oil blowover that gets into the boost solenoid.
