With a big helping hand with the welding/grinding duties from Rob of Volvo hotrod fame , the support bar is in place and the drivers seat is in :thumb: Thank fook!!


The seats were a bit awkward to line up, so fortunately Dave Bailey arrived and held the chair whilst I did the last of the measuring up. I am still to tidy up and do the painting but these pictures give you an idea of where I'm up to, and at least now I can do the Sunday trackday @ Snett




I'll do some more work including fitting the passenger side seat between now and Thursday.

The GTR is dead in the water at the moment Pabs. No money at all to finish that for a while. The seats and harnesses were bought for that so I've borrowed them for the Golf. Without good mates and a ridiculous will to take more than on than is healthy, I may just about get away with it.....Sunday will tell me more about that

That looks really good mate.
It is tough to try and keep two projects running side by side, i am finding that now!

Did you manage to get subframes for your seats specific for the car or did you make some out of steel and weld them in?

2" x 1" mild steel welded across the floor pan from the door to the transmission tunnel. Bolted the sidemounts to that Enables the lowest mounting position that the scrutineers will be happy with

Did a few basics over the last couple of days including:

Fit replacement alternator with associated belts

Fit sump baffle

Change engine oil

16v alternators do not fit, as the spacing is different where it mounts to the block. I made numerous phone calls and eventually a combo effort of SteveVR6, Natodubber and GT4Dave meant that an alternative 8v one was sourced and slapped on. A right pain in the arse but we got there in the end.

The sump baffle/windage tray was a bit more fun. I wanted to fit one of these as I do like a hoon from time to time and in theory there was a cheap and easy option. I like those





This effectively stops the oil sloshing around in the pan. We'll soon see. I bought it from GSF in Norwich for less than
