They are just concerned about the enviroment and are trying to save the trees

Plywood is still good for making the template out of. Easier to shape than cardboard. If we lived closer Bart would have given you a hand, the fact that people are saying don't do it, would have made him more determined to do it

That composite material sounds a bit nice.

Looks like you are getting stuck in 8)

I was on the dyno yesterday with Steve mapping a customers car we have built. Very similar spec to the engine you are having, turbo spec is slightly different (base car is a UK MY99).

It made 504bhp @ 1.65 bar, full boost @ 3500rpm. No AVCS.

Jase.
Jase ... sorry but I nearly spilt my wine :D :D : D

Getting really (even more) excited ... Awesome work :thumb:
Bloody hell!!!

Duncan, make sure you have some nice graphics on the back...... that way i'll have a nice view!

FFS Dunk, do it properly. Do you have templates or were you just gonna wing it? Do you actually need it or is this just a perceived thing?

With the greatest amount of respect in the World, you are not the most practical person in the world and I can see this ending in tears.

Your undertray idea had some validity but this seems like a lash up. Sorry I can't be more supportive.

* When you try and make this and fit it, can I be there to watch? Promise I won't laugh :D
f***ing pissed myself reading that
There is theory to it - Almost every 'track/race' car has an extending front splitter to counteract the inherant lift properties generated by the shape of the vehicle. Those that dont feature a venturi effect front to speed the airflow underneath. There is a reason for this :thumb:

In real life testing, admittedly not by me, but on my exact model of car, the following was recorded:

Red arrows represent lift/downforce at air flow of 144km/h
Blue arrows represent lift/downforce at air flow of 200km/h

This shows the downforce on the car at speed compared to an evo. It demonstrates that the car is engineered to go light at the front with speed and thus create more understeer as this is acknowledged as being the safest for normal use. It also shows that the rear spoiler/roof spoiler/improved under floor panelling and diffuser on the 2006 STi are actually functional items.

The front splitter design will utilise well known (apparently ]http://www.pts106.com/Image/Fat%20Bully ... er%201.jpg[/img]

To create a positive pressure at the front and, through the fitting of a protruding lip splitter, downwards on the lip. The ideal from research seems to be a protrusion of 3 inches to create a sizeable amount of downforce. I will be creating a degree of adjustability within the mounting points so that I can vary the amount of lip and therefore the amount of downforce so as not to upset the balance of the car. Hopefully this can be tuned at each circuit to suit the characteristics on the tracks.

Coupling this with a lower front of the car (it will be dropped by about 12mm) and a flat(er) undertray to speed the air under the engine bay (pressure drops with velocity), this will create additional suction onto the road.

The ideal will be to take Craners flat ;) :D

Duncan when last did you drive Donnington. With our car once we had added the rear wing Alan's speed through the Craners increased from around 95mph to around 105mph.

dunc if your thinking of doing the crainers flat then errr dont because you may end up on the grass mate because as you flick from right to left there is a slight crest that unsettles the car seen many cars go off there mate the best thing to do (well what i do) is lift just before it on turn in let the car sit then power out (only takes split second)it gives you alot of grip and sets you up nicely for the old hairpin.

your wood idea sounds great think i might go that way with ours
