Dont know if it would be of interest or any good guys but I noticed the other day while following one, certain Hyundai Accents have a rear bumper with diffusers underneath! Maybe you could modify one of those to fit and try out.

Whereas this is not relevant to your sierra it may help:

Red arrows represent lift/downforce at air flow of 144km/h
Blue arrows represent lift/downforce at air flow of 200km/h

This shows the downforce on my car at speed compared to an evo. It shows that the car is engineered to go light at the front and create more understeer.

The first issue to solve for me is creating more front grip so front undertray would do that - ideally to get the lift/downforce situation to neutral at worst - then I can work on getting more downforce at the rear.

I think with your existing double rear wing set up that you may well be creating a lot of rear downforce at the moment and that a similar situation exists in yours. ie that the front is either lifting or not creating as much as the rear and unbalancing the car. It would be interesting to try canards or front undertray to see i this improves it.

that is very interesting what you have put there mate was interesting to read.
funny you should mention the cannards as i have made some up cuz you carnt get them for our car
they come in 2 sections and 2 different angles deppending on what we like.
what you mentioned about our rear wing and it got me thinking about it and you could be right about the front lift.

There must be a way to measure this without a wind tunnel .....

Part of our problem stems from the engine, as this is made from pig iron it weighs a considerable amount. As we started to take weight out of the car we realised that the back end was becoming loose, hence the rear wing. After playing about with canards and undertrays i may have to look into the front suspension set up.
At present the car is fairly good on it's tyres and we would to keep it that way.

We have another bumper already built fitted with canards ready to test and also have some new front suspension ready to go on, hopefully we'll get the front under tray built soon and then it's a lot of testing at Bedford.

One of the ways that we'll measure any changes is with video footage. We have used the bullit camera outside the car before, so by positioning it to look at the front wheel you can study and roughly estimate the height of the arch to the wheel at a set poiint on the track. Not perfect but you have to use what you have.

Guys - what are you going to make this undertray out of?

I have been looking at Marine Plywood for mine, as it seems an ideal material, ie light, strong, easily worked/painted and best of cheap as anything.

We were thinking about sheet ally. I have never seen marine plywood so never considered it, thanks for the tip  . I only know of one boat builders in Birmingham if they are still there, will check it out. Do you have a contact for this material?

Asty, thanks for the link all info is useful. It will at least help us with the design of ours.

I have been talking with a GRP/fibreglass moulding company with reference to getting items on the car copied or made. My intention is simple if we get certain things made they can keep the moulds, advertise on the car and sell the products after an agreed time. Some of the plans for the car are not readily available for sierra's.
