Yes, i'm sure she has. Next time i speak to her i'll see what she's planning with it but think she'll probably keep it if she isn't already getting it sorted somewhere as a back up

Obviously each to their own but I don't see the point of not sending 3RLOD 360s back to M$ if they're within the 3 year warranty period - why bother invalidating the warranty trying a DIY fix when the returns process is relatively easy and free?

Granted, it's not nice to have to wait for 3 weeks or so and it's pretty poor that we're all in this position in the first place but I'd rather have them fix it by replacing with brand-new parts and having proper come-back if the problem isn't solved.

Plus you get 1 month Xbox Live Gold access free for the 'inconvenience'. ;)

Cheers,
Alex

I read somewhere that there are all kinds to tricks to help fix the 3 lights issue including putting a towel over it when switching it on etc etc.

Sorry to say that I would send it back to Microsoft for the same reasons Alex described !!

Unless you arent taking the console apart to do the repair.

yer it is perfectly understandable but not all 360's have the 3 year warrenty as i found out the other day.

Wanted to take mine apart to do some cleaning but though i would check the warrenty first on the microsoft website. My warrenty runs out tomorrow so only a year on mine :(.

O well,

rx7 you are right putting a towel round it does help but only as a short term fix as it heats up a component that becomes un soldered then it reattaches, this stops the red ring for any thing from a few mins to months, unless you add extra cooling.

Tom........oh Tom.

Modifying, specifically chipping, a console is widely regarded as being illegal. Personally I couldn't give a monkeys but I will not have the site brought into disrepute, so let that be the last of your posts on the matter please.

What you do on PM/MSN etc is up to you. What you post on these public areas is up to the mods. Please remember that all sorts of people read these pages.

I think you misunderstood me. Microsoft increased the warranty for the 3 Red Lights Of Death (3RLOD) fault to 3 years back in September I think. The general warranty on the console is still 1 year. Also opening the console for any reason breaches the terms of the warranty so isn't worth it IMHO, hence the previous post.

Alex

Yes - as long as the failure is 3RLOD. If it's the DVD drive or something then the 1 yr warranty has now expired.

My console was 12 months and 2 weeks old when it failed. You don't need proof of purchase (or even need to be the original owner as far as I can see), you just need not to have broken the terms of the warranty agreement (is there a seal or something so they can tell if the console's been opened up?).

Fingers crossed yours is ok!

Cheers,
Alex
