Hi Gents,
Looking for some info/views/abuse  on using a spare intercooler which i am going to modify to run a water to air sytem ,cooled using expansion valve and cooling coil , run from cars A/c unit.
I require some info but not sure how to get it?
1.Does or would anyone know the Load drawn in Kw of the air cooler compressor unit on the 04 sti type uk - you'll all probably think im nuts for asking this  trying to figure if extra gains in horsepower from drop in charge air temp outweigh HP required to run the A/c compressor on full load condition.
2. I generally work with marine diesel engines and they suffer from cold corrosion when dew point is reached in charge air manifold( dropping the inlet manifold temp below the outside temp causing condensation) with H2o mixing with sulphur products in fuel and causing sulphuric acid to be formed causing increased engine component wear i.e pistons liners rings turbine blades etc etc
I know that modern fuels are low in sulphur but there is still some sulphur content..... is this an issue ? i guess its a bit like water injection... has anyone experienced cold corrosion running water injection?
If the figures work out i was planning to run the standard top mount and then one or two smaller water to air coolers to enable them to be placed in the engine bay with minimal modification. These coolers should also have less delta P across them due to the fact that there is a greater heat transfer to the water than would be on and air to air cooler and thus the cooler needs less surface contact with the charge air to be cooled for the same cooling effect , thus less friction
Any and all info on this would be gratefully recieved before i cut up another intercooler!
