Logans right Dunc, an early classic will be lighter out of the box than you will ever get your car down to and will be cheaper by comparison. Your car is a bit too nice and expensive for competition IMHO and if you dont want to go down the road of caging it up with lots of power and 1b tyres then the accident could be a big one if it happens and you will definitely wish you had a cage around you at that point.
As for TA being cheaper than JISC, how much did your weekend to Knockhill cost you (fuel, accomodation, time, entry)? If experience is your goal, a seasons worth of JISC/Barkston (16 rounds) will stand you in better stead than 6 rounds of TA and still be cheaper, and you might well come away with a pot

I sometimes think the same too, then I drive it and change my mind. I have to say Duncan you have an absolutely lovely car there that i would be lowthed to alter too much just for time attack. Your car is perfect for the Ring, and Track days as well as being your daily runner and it's super reliable as well as being bloody quick!!
Most of those Time Attack tuners are spending genuinely serious amounts of megamoney and are really on top of what they are doing. Plus their cars are pretty serious dedicated track cars. If you are hell bent on time attack and maybe some other stuff too like hillclimbs and other such events, and if it were me, I would prefer to save my money bigtime and go for time attack 2009, with a dedicated track car that you built over a year, from the ground up with mega engine and suspension, and all the goodies, that you have to trailer from A - B (how cool would a fully prepped race Scooby look on a trailer), in which case you have then done a proper job so that you do have a cat in hells chance of actually doing extremely well.
I wouldn't want to go into it half arsed with a car that is 30% - 40% of the way there, that might come somewhere or might not, no matter how good a driver you are, and i hear you are a cracking driver. Then if it blows you would feel pig sick, as i would.

The Tuners are in a different class both in terms of machinery and budgets so would never even hope to compete with them on either count.
The taster of TA that I had this year was awesome and despite driving with less commitment than some and being down on power I had a hugely enjoyable time and finished middle of the field.
It isnt too nice for TA though and I have no intention of just competing in something that I stand a chance of winning. It is all a learning process and it was a massive learning curve in preparation, car control and driving just being in the same circles as some superb drivers from both the Tuner class and the club class. The cost wasnt huge - less than a BH track day but the spirit of the event was incredible. Ask Mike Payne or any numbers of the other competitors that did it but didnt really stand a chance of winning (sorry Mike - that came out wrong) whether they want to do it next year or look at the number of people that have pre-registered with TA for entry - it is treble subscribed already.
The car will progress and will be used in anger across a mixture of events including TA, the ring and track days and where time and budget permits some sprints aswell - it is in limbo land anyway when it comes to resale value at the mo so selling on is not an option - I might as well take it further down this road i started on

some valid points there i think, what if you have an off and bend it. do you or can you take insurance out as its timed motorsport ? asking as you say there is to much money in this car when all it takes is a mistake and hitting the armco
my option would be nice family runabout on the drive parked next to a road legal track weapon for whatever use you want it for (but thats just my opinion or what i would do if i had the money)
is there many other time attack competitors that use there car as a family/everyday car (not being funny as i just dont know)

Saying it is a daily car is probably not really right as it doesnt get used everyday (not been in it since Saturday), but I love driving it so much it would frustrate the crap out of me if it was in the garage and I couldnt drive it because it wasnt road legal. There is nothing better than just making any excuse to go for a drive - thats why I bought this car - to use, abuse and enjoy. My previous car was more grown up but I used to make excuses not to go out in it even though it was a great car :lol:
