How do you manage 100-150kg loss whilst keeping daily comforts?
And, don't you have to add a cage yet?

In your first post you say option 1 may be enforced by budget considerations ... yet, fun though it is to ponder, you're considering a mega-power build at the other extreme. What happens part-way through next season when the mega-build breaks and ends up costing you double your original budget for that build?

Mike's words on reliability and maximising potential strike me as the wisest so far.

The 100 - 150 kgs from:

- spare wheel (easy)
- rear seats (easy)
- front seats (these weigh a ton with the side airbags)

The rears could easily be put back in when needed on the road.

other bits that could be done:
- boot lid / spoiler
- bonnet

I wont go into the budget constraints side of things and I am hoping that this wont be an issue that I need to content with. But suffice to say I am going into the costs fully aware of spec creep and potential set-backs along the way.

Personally I dont think leaving the engine in its current form is viable hoping that nothing will go wrong - I have pushed my luck quite a lot already and another full year would see the end of it I am sure. Whatever happens I have to budget for a new engine next year (amongst other things) if I want to do the events.... and I want to do the events. 8)

A cage is not necessary for TA but it is on the maybe list at the moment. A cage in a road car is just asking for trouble in my eyes - they bloody hurt when you hit your head on them even with padding. The jury is still out on it.

Duncan go for option 4 :!:

It seems as thats the way your leaning towards anyway.

You say you are budgeting for a new engine next year, so on that theory alone you may as well go balls out

I'm in a not too disimilar situation (debating on use of insurance money - buy another scoob like an RA or spend it on an Axis Racing Stage on Jaynes car)

If financial contraints are a big issue then 3 :)

The more I look into option 4 the less appealing it seems to be honest as it will lead to a very long and expensive route to upgrade quite a lot of other things.

A good build on 3 with forged pistons and rods is ringing the right bells at the moment at around

Ross - the 3k is for a complete spare short engine to swap mine out, not swapping parts in my existing engine.

I have spoken to Gary about this before and he will be consulted again when the time is right :)

I see, that makes sense :-D

Not wanting to go off topic, but is the EJ25 considered to be superior to a EJ20? It was just being phased it when I left Subarus.
Most opinions of the 2.5 were negative at the time, what is the consensus now?

2.5 is generally accepted as the way forward if you are not in possession of a 2.3 CDB.

UK guys are regularly seeing 500-600 from these now (with reliability) without the need to rev the nuts of them or drive a complete lag monster which a heavily tuned 2.0L can become.

Dunc

Option E:

Return you car to standard, sell it, buy a already prepped car that is more track focused. and buy a normal road car, then you don't have all the dilema's about keeping yours as a daily driver!

My suggestions would be a n Evo 6 or a late Classic, as they are lighter already that your barge....

Job done :!:
