Apexi is/was always rated amongst the best for filtration for the GTR. I see no reason why that wouldn't be the same for your Rex Richie.

Hi,

Although Gareth and I both have induction kits (Gareth's got an HKS twin I think, mine's a big single Re-Amemiya cone) care has to be taken with the air supply or you can end up reducing power due to lack of cold air.

I've left the standard airbox ducting on mine to supply some cold air but it's still not perfect.

So - in terms of the best, the Knightsports kit with carbon ducting takes some beating but is scarily expensive. Stu is right that the Apexi Twin Power (I think they're called) are well regarded but see above about cold air supply.

What's the rest of your setup?

Edit - OK, I've read your intro post in Newbies. Have you read up much on modifying RX-7s? General consensus is that cat-back and air filter are the limits before swapping the ECU so personally I'd put the money towards an Apexi Power FC, the stock airbox will be fine although less blingy under the bonnet ;)

Cheers,
Alex

[quote="alexb"]Hi,

I'd second that - the stock RX ECU is a dumb as a box of rocks, and is dead slow. It's so impressive that the map is basically flat at more than 1lb of boost, and tries to run the engine at 10:1 AFR ](*,) A few features means it doesn't always get that bad, but it is a contributing factor to the horrible fuel consumption that RXs suffer. The Power FC is the way to go

Good luck

I have an HKS Racing Suction kit on mine, think it is great and looks cool.

But wouldnt recommend without changing the ecu first. The base map on the ecu will be fine for a few mods inc induction kits.

The Apexi induction kit is good for filtration but I dont like it that the 2nd cone is mounted behind the intercooler.

That said, mine is above the radiator and I intend having a play with some alu ducting to improve it.

Apexi Power FC first mate !!!

Ok thanks, my rx7 is completly standard so i was going to get the indution just for somewhere to start. iv been looking at the ecu's would it give me more power?
Thats definitely next on my list, do you know how much the fc will cost fitted and set up? and is the apexi one the best to get without spending loads?

More power? Yes

Cost? Allow for around a thousand pounds at an educated guess.

Best one? Probably. Get one whilst you can. They are hard to source for the GTR's. Just make sure you get one from someone who knows the right model. I understand that there are two for Rex's. (Early and late models?)

Yeah costs should be around 600 squid for the ecu and commander. There are 2 different types, one is an 8bit (earlier cars) and the other is a 16 bit for later cars.

You can run the base map and they are pretty easy to fit. Andrew (jimmys) fit mine if you are interested.
