Street Class????
My main concern is that a street class would negatively effect the outstanding reputation of the club. A reputation that alot have people have worked very hard to gain.

I completely agree with keeping to the original ethos of the club...
But in the case of someone having a "change of circumstances", Would maybe an "Enthusiast" membership scheme be more beneficial?
That way those who are interested in what we do here without necessarily having the means to participate i.e car or funds can still contribute via the forums or help out at events.

Right from the start, bigpower was developed as a club where people with a wide range of experience/ages/cars could come together as a result of a common interest, ie using their cars properly and the right mentality.
As a result of this, the users here are generally of the ethos that actions speak louder than words, and hence our insistance to back up any claims. Whilst it is easy to say this, it is a credit to our users that they are actively choosing to push the limits in the 'right' place such as a trackday/RWYB session etc.
Of course, I'm not naive enough to think that any of us has never given it some beans on the public road at some point. I don't feel that we should be rewarding people that have a massively powerful car and drive it on the road with a little graphic. What these people can gain is the respect from other users that they are able to drive a car with X hundred bhp safely on the road and not cane it everywhere, just because thay have got 'big power'.
Now, I am probably one of the biggest culprits in the following aspect; I have a big interest in all sorts of motorsport and would love to participate in trackdays. Unfortunately, my current circumstances don't allow me to do this. I physically can't afford to buy, prep and run a track car - I can't even afford to run a road car on my own at the moment.
Now does this make me 'street class'? I'm not entirely sure if my interpretation of Mark's original post is correct, so I apologise if I have misinterpreted this.
On the subject of member numbers and people being put off if they don't/won't/can't participate in track events etc. My thoughts are that we'd rather have a compact group of users that are all well into participating in events instead of a large number of users, with just a minority of users 'walking the walk' as per PistonHeads. If people do have a genuine interest in the club and it's events, but are unable to take part for various reasons then they'll stick around until they can take part - I'm still here!
We do want the club to expand and to increase the profile of Bigpower, but only as an extension of the high standard core of members we have now. I think in this instance the adage 'quality, not quantity' is particularly apt.

theres only so many people that use there cars that way
How do you come to that opinion Rich?
Have we set out to be the biggest ?
Do we want to have a huge user base of non-active keyboard warriors?
Are our numbers increasing?
Personal opinion. I wont be renewing my membershipdynamix wrote:??Richf wrote:probably wont even maintain the current membershipgary@apt wrote:its fine to say dont open club to other non track based people and im 100% with this but that wont allow the club to grow....

Thinking about this logically, why do people join forums?
For a feeling of community
To exchange knowledge
To pool resources and take part in events, maybe a few examples.
I think there is a definite case for keeping numbers controlled rather than selling out. If numbers grow, great. If they don't because our little piece of the interweb is protected, then that may be the risk that 'we' have to accept.
When people fill out the appilcation form they have to state an interest, that's all. I have an interest in racing. I don't do it. I have an interest in rallying and I don't do that either. I think we all understand the sorts of people and driving we do not wish to be associated with. It's implementing a mechanism that enables us to do that without cutting out people uneccesarily.
Keep the thoughts and feedback coming though.

My original post was just to try and establish how the term street sleeper was to be incorporated on the site , it was not just to give them a badge for big horsepower but to recognize the engineering achievement of being able to drive a car with 1000hp to the drag strip, use it and then drive home , it was definitely not meant to come across as if you have a shining car you can have a badge.
Unfortunately by the time I had written the post and submitted it, it was out of sync .
I for one was invited to join Bp and have taken part in some events and attended some meets and the people I have met and the no sh@t attitude is what I like, the fact that we have one common interest which is using our cars
Surely this would not appeal to the street car user . The only other possible consideration maybe membership by recommendation , if they wished to support the club in a constructive manner and don
