I have a blowing OEM uppipe on my WRX and i have booked Zen to install a new decat stainless steel uppipe this week. I would do it myself but in all honesty i think a pit or hydraulic lift is the best way forward and i haven't got either. Plus if any bolts won't move or get sheared off they have oxyacetaline and tap and die sets plus required nuts and bolts to do the job so i think on this occasion i best let someone else do it although it's frustrating knowing that i can do the job if i have the kit. Anyway..... what i want to know is......
Has anyone had any work done by Zen?
Are they any good? (i know they win Time Attack and all that, fair enough they know their stuff but is their work any good)
Do we have any BigPower deals/agreements with Zen. ( One for the Dynamix and the gang)
Even though they are very close to me as they are Wellingborough based (I'm Northampton) they aren't the cheapest outfit around (i have shopped about) but i bought some front swaybar end links from them a while back and i found their customer service to be OK and Paul to be a very friendly chap who doesn't seem to mind giving advice or talking to you, and right now to be honest i am going on their reputation with time attack.
Any thoughts??

Due to the fact the downpipe is standard OEM you cannot get to the bolts on the Uppipe to Turbo flange without dropping the downpipe so there's actually quite a bit to do and i really don't fancy snapping or shearing off bolts and not being able to fix them. I'd be absolutely buggered then and this car is my daily driver!! I don;t have another car at the mo to fall back on but that will change int he new year.
On the upside i get all new gaskets fitted to the exhaust manifolds while they are down there, both ends of the uppipe and downpipe to turbo flange gaskets so that should ensure an exhaust free interior cabin for a good long while. Now i know why those long trips to Scotland and back always ended up with myself and passenger feeling rather headdy at the end of a journey, and sitting in traffic was quite mind altering as well with stinking headaches..... or was that just my driving.
Thanks Gerry for the heads up on Zen. It sounds like my trust is well placed in them and i thinkt he extra cost is worth it for the peace of mind that they really do know what they are doing and they use good qualilty parts.

Whle i am there i will have a chat with him to see if he would consider giving BigPower members a discount. Maybe he could come on as a trusted supplier and give us all a discount e.g. 10%
I'm sure he would be welcome on BigPower and you never know so it's worth a bash. If so Duncan i'll get him to conatct you directly.

The thing about discounts is, it brings the pricing policy into question.
An items cost, from a supplier/retailer is determined by cost price + gross profit. Gross profit includes a percentage for overheads, i.e, operating costs. As the cost price remains the same, the discount must come from the net profit i.e. gross profit less overheads.
So, to offer discounts of 10% means the whole 10% must come out of the net profit and, as everything else is fixed, represents a much greater percentage of the net. To do this on anything other than group buys or quantity purchases must mean the item price is inflated to accomodate the reduction and to stay in business.
