New HID's

Post by 323ian »

Decided to properly upgrade the Skylines poor headlights and have installed some good quality HID lighting for both my dipped beam and high beam, the difference is amazing in looks and on the road.

Only trouble i have with the way the R33 GTR lights are though is that when you change from dipped beam to high beam the HID's have a warm up time of about 3-5 seconds so for that time you are blind!! I am going to change this by re wiring the headlights so the dipped beam lamps will stay on when i go up to high beam.

Couple of pics to show the difference between normal lights and HID lights;

Nice one mate, just done this on my car as the RX7 headlights are a like having a glow stick strapped to the bumper !! Dont even start me on the fogs !!

Kit looks very similar to mine although mine only go on dipped. Going to high beam is a bit of a joke now.

Made a huge difference !!

Top job though mate !

I bought two kits exactly the same to do both high beam and low beam mate.
As per usual it was not just a case of a simple wire up job on the skyline!
trying to find space for 4 ballast boxes was not easy either!

You obviously have 2 different bulbs for the high and low beam ?
Mine is just the one bulb with 2 filaments in it.

Lol re the 4 ballast boxes, they arent the smallest things in the world.
Easy having popup headlights !! The ballasts fit nicely underneath !!!!

Gareth if you have one bulb for 2 beams then you could have done high and low beam very easy with a Bi Xenon kit.
Check it out mate you only need one bulb and one ballast box.

I have 2 seperate bulbs and lamps, top picture is high beam and bottom pic is dipped beam.
I need to take it to work to align them though.

The Bi Xenon bulbs are too big for the headlight housings mate and catch on the popup mechanism. But cheers for the thought.

Are HID kits car specific? Have been getting rather hacked off with my lights lately, also are they very pricey or just a lil ?

Did you go with the 6,000k or 8,000k Ian?? After Gareth's write up on his, I've been interested in doing this myself. You should have told me that you were looking, could've gotten you a deal! Looking good as always though mate 8)

No mate, you just have to order the kit with the same bulbs as yours eg mine in the Rex is H4 but in our Mini it is H7.
