I've been told to stay well clear of tesco's fuel as it is brought over from Russia. Its cheap left over stuff then they just pump a load of butane into the mixture to raise the octane to the correct amount. Thats the cheap way todo it and thats why it's cheaper. Thats what i was told by an ex employee of shell who works for us

It was only a few months ago that tesco's had the problem with there fuel which caused all the damage to people's O2 sensors.

I have only ever put Optimax/V-Power in my cars, the performance ones anyway. If my local did the V-Power diesel I would be using that in my van as well.

Fair enough, worth noting this is not independent advice though. FWIW tesco 99 octane rating is hiked by inclusion of ethanol, which has a very high RON rating (107) but a lower calorific value than normal petrol. It is marketed as being more environmentally friendly than most fuels because the ethanol is sourced from biomass (if you worry about that stuff, can't say it weighs heavily on my mind)

IMHO I'd say V-Power is the best stuff for high power / forced induction, scoobies seem to like it anyway, definitely takes more ignition advance, although you gotta map for it to take full advantage. Tesco's 99 is probably a not-too-distant second - better than most of the generic super unleadeds.

I found another 2-3 deg advance over most of the WOT range on V-power cf Tesco 99. Worth about 10ish bhp. I have seen some variability on knock count with different batches of V-power though and it does seem sensitive to rebreathing.

Tesco 99RON is made by a company called Greenergy, and it doesn't come from Russia. They refine it here in the UK and manufacture about 50million litres a week.

The Tesco thing a little while back was a blip in what is generally a very good track record of providing good quality clean fuels for many years now.

I suppose you forgot about Shell 98RON way back when it was washing all the lubrication from Cylinder heads and pistons. It wasn't until car engines run on Shell started going bang that they decided to do some research and found out that the detergents they mixed in were doing more harm than good.

I suppose an ex-shell employee might tell you stories like Tesco 99RON is crap when actually it's been proven to be better than V-POWER :lol:

Both tesco and v power are bulked out with mbte for the magic 99 RON number. I bet the true MON value at the pump is quite a bit lower and varies a lot.
