just a quick note that ALL rally cars have to be road legal to compete incl.a valid MOT, however they may not be taxed or insured dependant on venue used.............

I thought that were the case, thanks Alyn.

I was looking thro some entry lists, and results last night for rallies in our area (East Anglia) and found that some of the lads in the 4wd class are using ex WRC machinery :o :o :o

So not sure if a good starting point would be to buy a Fwd 1600cc and go in that class :?: :?: or stick with the 4wd in clubman or group N spe, and just go out and enjoy it, and hopefully beat a few people with more expensive kit.

don't get hung up on what peeps are using as you'll never ever have enough money to run at the sharp end, unless you can afford an ex works car and the budget to run it!!

personally i always got far more enjoyment/satisfaction from bettering a lot of others in my old clubbie 1300 nova - even had a class podium against cars costing at least 4x as much!!

if its for fun, simply buy the car you can afford to run/buy and get it on

Yeh, not worried, just if I could afford a ex-Works car i think I would probbaly be trying a slightly higher llevel of rallying, but I suppose thats maybe just me!

All good advice Alyn, just looking into it at the moment, not 100% whether I will go down this route, just had a quick look at Rally Hire, but thats seems quite expensive!

The 205 challenge cup was supposed to be a budget entry route into rallying:

http://www.205cup.com/

Don't know a huge amount about it, but it is designed for competition on a budget. Looks like they've added a budget RWD class as well with the beemers, does look like fun, don't know whether it is the kind of thing you might be looking for.

Had seen a few 205 Challenge cars advertised, and was wondering what that was about, thanks for the link, excellent reading and certainly food for thought, a good cheap way to get into it! Plenty to read up on now :D

The more I read about it, the more appealing it is!!! Other one is the Fiesta Trophy, but that seems like its a lot more money, as it uses current model Fiestas.

Looks like event entry costs for the Pugs/Bimmers are circa
