Running with out a dump valve

OK any thoughts on the above statement ?.

With my new set up I will not have room to run one, From what I've read it will be fine but I'm very interested in other people's opinions :wink: .

It depends on the strength of the turbo - it causes a large amount of stress when stalling the blades. So at the very least it will reduce the life expectancy of the turbo blades and/or bearings.

Interesting subject this. If you are running a T28 still and running sub 18/20 psi, it should be fine. I spoke to garrett about this at a turbo stall ( no pun intended ) and that is what i was told. I had a GT28R on my rover and ran no DV and not only did it sound the Bollox but it does reduce some lag. I know bladey doesnt run one on the orange. Might be worth asking his opinion? I would be careful with BB type tubbies like i had as the shaft is thinner and more prone to snap but again with high boost.

Yes,
The trend is to run without dump valves as they seem to do more harm than good sometimes and cause running problems.
My Gtr will come back from RK tuning without any and running around 1.2 bar.
At high boost levels and hard driving, it is bound to shorten the life of a turbo though.
JJ, the main reason for a dump valve is not to make a wooshing noise :roll: lol

I have an external gated GT3076R, The problem is that once the charge cooler is fitted it just doesn't leave enough room as far as I can see at the moment, I plan to run around 1.8-2.3 bar depending on what my 740cc MSD injectors can cope with.

I maybe be able to squeeze in a small bit of 3" pipe between the plenum elbow and charge cooler if I really have to, I've been playing around with it today and have come to the conclusion that I need professional help to sort out the pipe work, It will be the difference between a really nice well sorted set up and a lash up :o :lol: :lol: :lol: .

Oh well back to saving :oops: :oops: .

If you are running that kind of boost a BOV will be essential.

Yes,
With that sort of boost you will need one to protect your turbo and help spool up between gears.
I recomend a forge recirc with their red spring, supplied by me of course.

No worries mate,
My first Pulsar was also running a standard ecu, injectors and MAF etc at that power so i was amazed it never blew because i used to give it loads of abuse at the Pod and track days. Wish i had never sold that one.
Thinking about letting this one in as p/ex on my GTR and put a nice big turbo on it :grin:

Well I had a head start on you then because I had the Motec fitted even back then lol.

Yes I know that car he is one of our members on the GTIROC, It's a nice car but their is a far better one that has just come up for sale on the site.

This car has the forged engine rebuild plus quaife gearbox and twin plate clutch, I know this one personally and he looks after it very well indeed.
