Gearbox Problem

Post by ValoSunnyGti »

Hey All,

Slight problem with my gearbox at the moment. It keeps popping out of fifth when i accelerate. If i am at a steady pace then it stays in gear. Also I can hold it in place and it is fine ,

Any suggestions ?

Will be the syncro/select thats on its way unfortunately hunni :(

Either look into another box or rebuild yours. personally I'd rebuild it, if you buy a replacement you never know the condition where as rebuilding it allows for you to replace the bearings and check all teh baulks and syncro's/gears too

LOl depends on where the issue lies to be honest, if you're a fairly capable mechanic then stripping and rebuilding a box isn't to hard thoguh there aren't many a garages that still do it.

If you want it super cheap then a replacement box is your best choice but be warned the replacement box may not be far off doing what has just happened to you.

If money is really tight (join the club) then buy a replacement and keep your box, save and fix it at a later date

There are some places still about that will re build a box for you, i think i would re build it if i was planning to keep the car for a while.

Speak to GBH Motorsport, they still do boxes and are based near colchester, pretty reasonable on prices I find too

I've found that the price of reconditioning a box is way too expensive and far outweighs the price of a few second hand boxes.

I currently have 4 spare R28 gearboxes for my Carlton GSI - I bought them all for
