agreed ben, its gone in direct competition with all the other hatchbacks and to me has lost alot of the shape its famous for! do like the vid of the heavily disguised sti going round the ring though. The only saving grace is the wrc car below.

That's no saving grace Paul.........that's a peace offering to appease disillusioned Impreza fans that thought it couldn't get any worse!

The car looks quick from the clips at NS but in the spy shots it looks like a tweaked Rover 25. Such a shame that this new opportunity to overhaul the model has been blown. Looking at Mitsibushi and their Evo, they must be laughing their heads off.

Interesting to note the hatchback rivals. Not knocking the type R or Golf, but surely the previous model WRX wouldn't have been compared to these in tests??? Is the new model that much cheaper to allow it to be dropped in against these from a price point of view.

The real test will be how it does in WRC - if it wins it will sell - if it doesnt it will bomb.

The front grill does it in - it is shocking.

There is a saloon version which to be honest, is even uglier but there may be a very quick facelift to make it something that people like.

I think in essence it is right to make a hatch version as people see it as more practical and opens it out to the wider market and the STi version will be the one that makes or breaks it.

I wont be in a hurry to change even though this is supposed to be far superior in handling and power delivery terms to the existing models. There will be a huge gap before the aftermarket world catches up and develops products that will extend its performance.

 It just looks so bland. Horrible. They may as well go the whole hog, get rid of the bonnet scoop and rename it 'Corolla'

What are the specs ?

Looks a bit like the Mazda 3 MPS but why they didnt make that 4wd...doh !!

Sadly I think the trouble with all the more modern sportscars/hot hatches etc is that they are becoming a bit too 'civilised' looking !!! Take the older Integra and Civic (EK) Honda Type Rs, they were only Type Rs because they were significantly lighter than the normal road versions, had different bodykits and the sound deadening etc was removed so there was a sense of rawness with them. And look at the R32 Golf....even though it is a top of the range model it still looks too much like a standard one but with a bigger engine.

Luckily the new GTR and Supra are coming along...... :D

Lets just have a nice pic of those to cheer ourselves up with........
