v3 STI

Post by Tk »

thought i would start a project thread as ther is plenty to do with the version 3 sti i recently bought
i had a 580 mile round trip to pick it up last weekend when i get there all looks ok with it apart from a few little dents and flaking paint on the lower skirts that had not been prepped properly before painting (not the end of the world ) so took it for a little run all felt tight and handled as it should with no nasty noises crunches etc.. got it back and hmmm i can smell oil , looked under bonnet and oil burning on manifold, i assume its rocker cover gasket and a common problem on imprezas , anyway he offerered a few hundred off to sort that so i bought it, run home was all well but slow as the mrs was following in the focus.

about the car : its a version 3 sti done 81000 miles with certificate the guy imported it and owned it for over 6 years, cars totally standard including exhaust with cat in place , standard airbox no boost controllers dump valves etc.. it dont even had a boost gauge  exterior has had a few bits done to it like sti6 rear spoiler and front bumper/grill ,tinted rear windows,

well it has not taken me long to make a start on getting a few bits and peices together picked up a 3" stainless de-cat downpipe and up-pipe today from someone local
Image Image

also picked up some 17" black prorace 2 wheels with yoko parada spec 2 tyres as these clear brembo calipers or so im told
Image

also ordered a full magnex stainless exhaust system to downpipe , 31/2" round end , get this thursday
Image

also ordered an apexi induction kit (i know there is not much gain in having one of these but sod it )

plently more planned for the future but these few mods should help it breath a little easier and gain a few more ponys
also planning on fitting a nice set of gold brembo calipers etc.. once i pick them up
cars going in friday to get rockercover problem sorted and exhaust bits and pieces fitted
a pic as car looks now
Image

looking forward to a trip to the nurburgring as i have never been and need to go, i would not have trusted either of my pulsars for the trip and have a little more faith in an impreza to get me there and back (famous last words)
anyway soon to be seen on a track near you :thumb:

Nice one TK, as Duncan says get some better pics up :!:

Also, you don't need the up-pipe for your level of tune(unless you are going mad with it  ), there is no cat there in a classic! And unless above 350bhp ish a larger up-pipe will only make the car less responsive and laggy.

Good point on the up-pipe Logan. :thumb: The larger diameter will rob you of power as the exhaust gases need to be flowing fast to help spool.

up pipe is on hold , i was under the assumption they were restrictive even on say 300bhp need to do my homework  it was not a new item though and only paid peanuts for it so it can go on hold until a later date when i may need it ,
as for pics i will take some at the weekend when i start using the car , being a tight git im not taxing it when its the first on saturday , currently on sorn from last month

plus exhaust is blowing and rocker gasket issue which is all being sorted out friday
im looking forward to the weekend

Good lad :D

Yeh, bigger up-pipe and headers really only come into play above 350bhp! Even then you should measure the diameter before putting it on, as quite a few cars that should be making decent power on legr turbo etc are not making the figures, or are as laggy as hell due to an excessive up-pipe diameter.

If you keep it smaller then you get more torque, so, as always its a balancing act!

managed to fit one side tonight before darkness and they did need a 4mm spacer with the prorace 1.2's :( im not a big fan of using spacers but i'l put up with them for now although there is about 1mm clearance between caliper and wheel spoke :o im looking forward to trying them out in the morning once i got other side fitted
