If you are going as far as lifting the engine out then i would get the rebuild done at the same time TBH, it wont be an easy job to do yourself though mate.

As Stu has said we have the workshop facilities at the unit if it is of any help to you.

Yeah Ollie that's what Andrew said. I wouldn't look forward to doing it if that were the route I was going ;)

Decision made :)

Post by alexb »

Well guys, I have made some decisions after talking today through with the missus.

I definitely do want to keep the car long-term. And enjoy driving it not just leave it sitting on the driveway.

So... I will be getting the rebuild done at the same time as the engine is out for the turbos.

And to get the ball rolling I've just ordered front and rear rotor housings from Japan :).

Excellent Alex, if you are doing it yourself I'll help out and am sure there are loads who would like to uncover the mysteries of the rotary engine !!!

Wonder if you could save some money by taking the engine out yourself ?

Now this has given me a nightmare.....dont think I will take mine out again lol.

Just thinking about this Alex, there are some nice cheap single turbo kits on MRC at the mo.............

Also I have enough problems with my car at the moment so will tackle those before going on the track again....

Ok I'll take your word for it mate ;)

I'm happy to stick with the sequential twins, I've had old-skool turbo lag in my Impreza and prefer the smoothness of the twins. But I will be focussing on cooling and general engine improvements once my wallet recovers :)

Alex

Progress Update

Post by alexb »

Ok guys,

Since the trackday my wallet has been standing up well to some abuse ;)

The rotor housings were delayed a bit due to a week-long national holiday in Japan but are in mid-air as I type so will be with me shortly.

The turbo pack I bought from a mazdarotaryclub.com member turned out to be a POS as there was a crack right through a key area of the manifold. Thought I'd been ripped off but the bloke was a gent and refunded me the money while not wanting the turbos sent back. In the process of settling payment on an alternative set so should be ok next week.

I couldn't resist picking up an uprated all-alloy Standard Mount Intercooler from well-respected UK rotary tuner Rotechnics for

Sounds like you have had a bit of a result, in a roundabout sort of way. :D

Glad you are getting it sorted.
I may be getting older but I REFUSE to grow up :D
