I posted this in the Techical threads but had no reply so i thought i would try here.....
Does anyone on BP do their own mapping without using ECUTEK tools. I use Engnuity, ECUexplorer, ECUedit, ECUflash with a laptop and Tactrix ODBII cable. I would be interested to share stories, tips, advice, maps, compare logs, general back scratching etc.... with anyone that does.
Does anyone have an old ECUTEK map written pre-2006 for a 2002 WRX. ECU's with Post-2006 ECUTEK maps can't be hacked without ECUTEK software and a valid licence, or overwriten with different maps.
Does anyone have any software that can be hooked up with a Tactrix cable and laptop to measure W/BHP on the road??
Thanks in advance :thumb:

Scooby 01 - 05 WRX/STi mapping with non ECUTEK software....
Buggers cancelled my op just a couple of days before it was due. Inconsiderate barstewards!!

Just starting to learn this myself using open (ish) source software that you list and a Tactrix cable.
I mainly use Ecutek Delta Dash for logging and it has a Road Dyno funtion for BHP/Torque testing but dont have any spare slots for extra vehicles to be connected. Having said that, it has been connected to my brother in law's 2002 WRX so the ecu code may be one of the 3 allowed to be registered.
I havent actually ventured into changing the maps yet as Mocom Racing do my mapping using the tools you list but will be happy to share what limited knowldge I have so we can learn together
Now... quick, hide before people take the mickey of us logging ](*,)

HI Duncan,
I'm definately up for that.
Personally i think logging is important so you can see what everything is doing during a WOT run, allowing you to make those fine adjustments as you map. I think these delta dash's are pretty good but i don't think they allow you to change anything on the fly like you can with a seperate boost controller, timing advancer, etc... You can with a laptop and cable no probs
I definately don't want to go down the ECUTEK road as by the time i have finished messing about it's likely it would have cost a fair bit with all the changes i make testing different settings, and i'm more interested in learning about this and doing it myself so when i eventually get to Spain for good i can start Tuning Scooby's out there, and there is nobody doing it where i'll end up. :bandit:
I have already started messing about with maps (boost, timing,AFR etc...) but not gone ott so i don't kill the car. I don't know if you have already but one of the easiest things you could do is download your map with ECUflash and study it against some of your logging. I use mostly Enginuity for looging as it gives you real values as opposed to hexadecimal values when altering maps and real-time logging data as you go. Much easier to understand straight away. 8)
Anyway....as for people taking the mickey out of logging.....At least i'll know what happened seconds before my car went *BANG*!!
i look forward to saying hello at one of these Snetterton meets and a few chats in between. :type: :thumb:

Stage2 Map with Launch Control :D
I now have a new stage2 map from XPT with Launch Control
The new map is very good, and very smooth, and another excellent base for further tweaking now i have further mods on my car. I have had to change a couple of things on it already as it is meant to be for a USDM ECU, however....it now runs on the EDM ECU and that is top news.
Now that i have had about a year of tweaking and messing with my own home brew base map and getting some really good results i felt i was ready to spend some money and get what is already a very good map but make it more for me and my car, and UK roads / conditions!!
If Duncan is reading this....i spotted you on RomRaider this evening
Very glad they are up and running again after all their trials and tribulations. Nice to see you still keep a hand in too, even though these days you are flying high with TA and have some experts to do the work for you :thumb:
Keep mapping :smoke:

Well...this ROM is for 02 WRX USDM, and when i read my ECU it tells me it's now USDM based on A4SGE01C, instead of A4SE900D which is the EDM ROM. So my WRX is now officially a US vehicle
Anyway....you want to see my ROM do you??? Not sure if i should let you because the chap i have bought it from does this for a living, but does lots of other stuff for us DIY tuners free of charge, and i feel it would be betrying the trust this chap has in his customers not to either sell on copies of these Roms or to let others that haven't paid for them hack them about, or even to post up ROMs in the customer forums. He's there to make money at the end of the day so i don;t blame him. If this chap didn't have an issue with it then i would have no probs letting you take a look. However right now it would be unethical for me to do so. Please don't be offended
It wouldn't be any use to you anyway as it definately won't load on your ECU as i think you have the 32-bit DBW ECU. I may be wrong though.
Also the ROM itself has it's very own dedicated definitions xml file as well that has to be loaded into RomRaider, and another seperate xml file for loading into ECUflash so unless you have either of those you can't even open it with either applicaiton to reverse engineer it.
I am not sure how easy it is to hack into the special additions on this ROM either. I think you would need the application that it has been written with (could be either RomRaider or ECUflash or something else), and i suppose you need to be a reasonably good developer and have a good understanding of Hex as it's probably written with that format in mind.
My ROM also includes some other interesting additions as well as Launch Control, such as delimiting top speed or delimiting RPM. I've been wanting to do that for a while now and so far none of OEM or cooked ROMS would let me do that, so you can see one of the reasons why i bought this ROM
The launch control is very simple to programme / adjust as it's simply based on RPM v MPH and doesn't use any fancy sensors or electronic wizardry to give you what you want. You program in your RPM ceiling for take off and upto however many MPH you want Launch Control to be active for.
e.g. 4000rpm ceiling for take off (floor the accelerator and RPM won't rise over 4000rpm), active until you hit 25mph (at 25mph your RPM ceiling is open again). I guess it could be used very effectively to flat shift as well from that cruicial 1-2nd gear stint if you car is very powerful and spins the wheels easy, specially for drag racing i think. You could set the MPH for 50mph, or whatever works for you
I haven't used it yet and it will take some trial and error to get it spot on for my car but it will involve some tyre shredding to get there. Never easy is it.
This ROM cost me $52 and i payed for it via PayPal. I spotted one for you too. 06 STi Stage2 (will come with Launch Control) $129.99 http://www.plasmatize.com/xptstore/inde ... 0cb00f4726

The most they map their cars is for 93 Octane (RON+MON/2) fuel, which is equivalent to what was our old 98RON.
However, the mapper has said that if you put higher RON fuel in and reset the ECU it will learn the higher RON fuel and take big advantage of it. The learning rate of this ROM is very good and i reckon my car on 99RON puts out more torque and BHP than theirs do by a decent margin.
Plus it's a lot cooler here generally all year round so these maps will love UK climate and fuel. All i need to do is give my wastegate arm a turn tighter and that should get me hitting boost and WGD targets spot on.
If you manage to get one of these ROMS and successfully analyse it let me know as your notes will make interesting reading :thumb:
