Dump Valves, what to chose?

Post by thekingofming »

Hello,

Now I'm not really much of a forum warrior, more of a voyeur, but I am going to have to post for once as I need some advice regarding chosing a dump valve and as most of you seem to run turbo'd cars I guessed you might have some opinions. I know I could google it, but most of the stuff I find I am unsure whether to trust and I think I would get some honest answers from here.

I'm picking up my newly turbo'd Polo G40 on Saturday and currently it has no dump valve (please don't start with any "running without one will kill the turbo", I appreciate that and hence why I'm asking about dump valves). I think I want a recirculating one so that its not loud and too obvious, altohugh part of me does want some kind of noise. Are there to atmosphere ones that are not too loud? Are there good brands to get? Any features that should be considered?

The car will be running around 17psi at the moment, with possibly more (20+) if the turbo can produce once I have an uprated actuator, I am not sure if that makes a difference to what one would be required.

much thanks in advance

Ben

Forge are pretty decent for reasonable funds, the Baileys seem to suffer from week springs which then means they leak, not good!

I have always had Forge ones, and they seem good, you can get differnt springs and shims to fit inside them to adjust at what boost pressure they release the pressure. Also, this then means you can have it quiet for just pootling around, and noisy when on WOT :D

If I were you, have a look out on ebay, as there are always loads knocking about, and you can save a packet. eg. a new one is circa
