Another Good Day for the Sprint Guys

Post by Gerry H »

Result for the BP Sprint Team. I'll leave the detail for Andy to fill in. I have to walk the dog and watch the F1 :D

Well done guys! 8)

We all did. Not kidding!

I won in the morning and got bumped up to play with the kits cars where I came second, Gerry had a blinding lap to blitz his class in the afternoon, as did Ben.

Excellent event, a full sprint in the morning (2 practice, 2 to count) and again in the afternoon, then free practice on the track, all for

I think Andy summed it up nicely there. It certainly was a good day. Not many runners so plenty of track time for all. A nice friendly bunch of people too.

The course is really good, a mix of left & right handers and a start straight with chicane. I think it would deserve a fare bit of respect when wet as the run-offs, with a smattering tyre clad lamp posts and concrete posted, chain-link fenced, concrete walled 'ponds' would come up pretty quickly once a wheel was put wrong.

Luckily it stayed dry and was enjoyed to the full. Only thing lacking was a burger van, which hopefuly, will be in attendance soon. Roll on July. :-D

Good point Gerry, the course is quite narrow and quite low grip. Its not particularly quick (think I saw the top end of third gear - 80mph?) but there are a few things to clip if you come off (all tyre defended though). I was having a job keeping it on the track in the dry when I was pushing on :)

Would demand caution in the wet, although I understand their accident record is exemplary.

I used to race in the same club as Billy, and it transpires the RAF even have their own race series! Looks like I might be dusting off the race licence sooner than I thought. :-D

No comment on the 070 drift tyres then?

I was thinking that maybe, after all the positive comments, that they're the way to go. After the pax lap in your car, I'll stick with 888s. Although, having said that, I spun twice to your zero

BTW It was good to meet Ben again, is he a BP member?

It's difficult to say whats going on with the 070s. I thought no-one would believe that they werent working for me so I'm glad you had the opportunity to go out and confirm I hadnt lost the plot. Ben still thought we were going fast when I did a 53.4 with him in it, so it might be a question of perception. Too many people rate them for them to be as drifty as they seem to be on my car, so I suspect something is amiss at the mo.

I think I will experiment with pressures and try the F1s back to back to see which produces the quickest lap. When Dunc comes to Barkston we can p-ride in each others and he might be able to give me some tips on setup.

Your car is a missile, with 370+ bhp, KWs, PPG and list 1bs, fantastic, what a weapon, I really enjoyed that pax lap (especially when it didnt dig in as we span, no body damage upon cone collection I hope?).
