Santa Pod today - my first RWYB.....

Post by BrianGT4 »

...another steep learning curve to overcome! :?

My nephew invited me to join him and his mates today at Santa Pod

I'd never done a RWYB before and I wasn't sure it was for me,let alone my poor old GT4...it's still reeling from the April 'Ring trip  but I thought I would give it a go

Had a great time but here come the excuses before I tell you my times

It was very hot so my top mount intercooler was suffering big time,
I had loads of grip off the line but as it's my daily driver I didn't want to burn the clutch out or dump it too hard, this meant I struggled to get going and keep the revs up...she kept bogging down

But with all that I still enjoyed it and would do it again,I just need to be a bit braver and more aggressive with my launch,on a cooler day and with a decat pipe fitted I should do better

Ok...here is the embarrasing bit!
Mostly 15.9 runs and my best was only 15.7 with 87mph over the line

At least I have a base to build on,hopefully I can improve next time...Japshow in 2 weeks :thumb:

And I got a very nice pic too :D

Dont knock the times - it is pretty hard to abuse the car like that when you use it regularly to get quicker off the line.

get your timing sheet scanned :D

nice pic btw 8)

well done chap.

just as a marker i was running 15.02's in january in my 225bhp fwd rover :-D

with a strong 30mph headwind too.

it's hard to balance agression and preservation ( i should make that my catchphrase? )

Cheers chaps,

Pablo - looks like you are in for a great show, some nice motors there today, loads camping...have a good one :thumb:

Dunc - do I send my scan to you?....then do I get a badge? :-D

Jim - nice one,the Rover went fairly well then,I guess it was pretty heavy too (my GT4 is 1500kg)

Preservation Vs. Aggression....preservation seems to win every time with me  on the start line with an engine that has done over 208,000 miles and knowing the car has got to get me to work and back every day, tends to make me ease off!

Well done for having a go and popping your drag racing cherry 8)

Your 60ft time of 2.4 seconds isn't bad for your first time to be honest and I think my best has only been half a second quicker on drag tyres.

Nice one Brian, Drag is a whole new bug ain't it :D

You are right to be a little weary of the starts, I know how you treat your car well, I have got through 4 clutches and a gearbox - but it is all worth it

Good times, and a great day out I expect. That is a really good pic!

(damn I need to finish this mapping quick, I need the drag rush back)
