5. The original ECU should be located behind the glove box.
The ABS control module is located behind cover just above the glovebox. Just in case you were looking at the wrong one.
You say the car won't start is there any signs of life, for example can you hear the fuel pump buzzing.

There is a buzzing and whiring but is getting fainter and the dashboard lights are also getting faint. Tried jumping it but no joy, looks like the wires from the ignition barrel are causing the problem. And the crazy amount of wires under the bonnet and on the battery terminals.

No dont think so,i was very methodical and traced and removed every associated wire at source.Asty wrote:Is it somthing to do with taking the alarm out :roll:jazzymonkey wrote:Update!
All the interior is now stripped apart from the headlining and the dash. I removed the alarm and central locking wiring, bit of a bugger but sorted now. There is a few less wires to worry about now.
Bit of bad luck the car wont start now. Its bound to be a wiring problem somewhere! Found some burnt wires coming from the ignition barrel and the battery connections are quite shocking. So further invest is required.

If the battery is knackered it won't start of a jump, so first i would try another battery if you have one available. As for all the wires on the battery, sorry but no easy way round you'll have to trace them back to their source.
I'll ask Alan (Bart) about the wires on the ignition barrel as he only ever thinks outside the box
If there's a way round it or a temporary fix he'll be able to come up with it. I'll try and get him on here tomorrow.
If you could get a picture up that would help.

i have noticed that your car is a E reg so the original engine for the car was a 2.8 mfi manual fuel intection so it did not come with a ECU at all as you have said the one above the glove box is for the ABS unit.
as for the burnt wires need a pic to look at what has happened there to see what can be done to fix it.

Took some pics of the wires. The main culprit seems like the big yellow wire from the ignition barrel.

The posh ECU protective cover

The battery terminals

Extra bloody wires

Stripped

Butchered seats ready to make custom subframes

Well there we have the current progress/damage.
Bloody wires :x

with regards to the melted wires carnt think why they would have melted the only advice i can give
is to 1 cut the melted part out and fit new piece with conector blocks or 2 trace the whole wire and
replace the whole lot but this might be a pain to do.
as for the extra wires you have the engine came out of a granada/scopio and everything on those
cars was electric and was made realy as a cruse car, for example
granada/scorpio - sierra as per a E reg model
ELECTRIC - manual
seats
sun roof
heated seats
all electric windows
heated wing mirrors
air con (optional extra on sierra)
more electrical gadges to play with
also some them plugs might have the same use as the original loom.
but the one with the red plug in it is for a diagnostic use.
hope this helps mate.

Looks like its going to take me a while. Getting a new battery tomorrow and then down to the scrappies for a few wires. There is a plug just shown upstream from the ignition barrel where the burnout has occured going towards the fuse box i presume, will find out where this terminates and replace. Fingers crossed. [-o<

Went to the Scrappys today, Hainford Hall. Not one Sierra!
Removed the dash and traced the burnt out wires. It was the two yellow wires from the ignition barrel. One seems to go to the centre console and the second goes to the passenger side. Replaced the wire and fitted the new battery and hey presto - vroom vroom!
Removed the heater as well, still loads of wires to remove but looking better now.
