A busy couple of weeks

Post by pablo »

A busy couple of weeks with the Janspeed Sierra. Started with changing the plugs and adjusting the fueling. Only to find that the fuel metering unit was faulty. Luckily we had a spare with one of our other engines so decided to changeit.

All fitted decided to take the car for a little test drive. Less than a mile from my house and the car cut out. Worse still i didn't have my mobile with me so i had to sit there and wait for Alan to realise that something had gone wrong and to come and find me. 10 minutes later he turned up and we towed the car back home.
Afer checking everything over we found that the fuel pump was not working.
Caused by this a melted relay

After getting this sorted the fueling on the car was now out so it was off to get the car set up again. Came back all happy as the torgue was again up on the car. Decided to take it for a road test and as Alan accelerated up the slip road onto the motorway we heard a load popping sound followed up a whoosh sound  . A quick glance at the boost gauge told me that we had lost all boost. Not good, my first thoughts were that we had either blown the turbo or hopefully just blown a pipe off somewhere. We managed to limp the car home and started our investigation ny torch light. 10 minutes into the investigation and this is what we found.

We had blown an intercooler pipe off the turbo :)
Re-fitted it the next day with a longer piece of samco, and yes we again took it out for a road test. She ran sweeeeeet :-D

Oh the joys eh mate, glad you got there in the end and what a sickening feeling when a hose blows off. Its happend to me before when i split a hose and have to say i thought the worst. Such a relief when you realise its a failed hose. Anyway thanks for the pix and great to see shes up and running happy 8)

the spark plugs were surposed to be set at 0.7 and were about at 0.9 this little different was causing the car to stutter under boost as it was being blown out, a hour half to sort 6 sparkplugs out :o

Pre ring jobs

1. Oil and filter change
2. Air filter change
3. New plug leads
4. New brake pads
5. Buy and install an MF2 (Mapable fuel controller). Then have it set up and mapped.
6. Improve rear grip / handling
