Do you use your car in the Rain?
I have to be honest here mate but that comes across a bit offensive! I am sure its not meant to be anyway.Bladerider wrote:Hmmm,
With the very greatest of respect to those here who have said they dont use them and polish them and pamper them like crazy and so on,
If they were 100k supercars, or even limited edition rarities like a RS200 or Alfa SZ with very few miles on them, in GENUINE concourse condition, then I can undertsand the fastidiousness to preserve something that can only deteriorate with alot of use.
But we are talking about run of the mill, standard motors, that have already done a few miles - even the lower mileage ones, that are just basically 10year old go fast cars on a budget that should just be used and enjoyed. Worrying non stop that you have sullied the underneath of a GTO with some road grime and salt is nuts - throw it away and buy another - theres loads to chose from !!! If you want a mint low miler, then fine - and perhaps you bath have them, in which case apologies - but I never get it when someone happens to have a regular car thats just like all the others and then spends shed loads of time and effort and cleaning products trying to make a silk purse out of a sows ear !!! I dont mean that it should be caned and unloved, just that it shouldnt need to be locked up in air conditioned agarges with duvets like it was a Murcielago GTR !!!!
Sorry, and this isnt a personal attack, I just dont and never will "get it" !!

The purchase price of my GTR alone was more than my yearly salary let alone all the money that has gone into it so far!
So to me it is my Lambo or Ferrari and the way i treat it is the basis of that. I spent long and hard searching for the right one and it is a 14 year old car but it is still only on 36k miles so i dont want to just get it and ruin it by driving in uneccesary weather, it is a toy and as such will only be used in suitable weather. I also hope that i am not trying to polish up a sows ear, i prefer to beleive i am polishing up a silk purse into a very good silk purse!!
spot on fellaThe purchase price of my GTR alone was more than my yearly salary let alone all the money that has gone into it so far!

I run a second car which then allows me the funds to have a dedicated track toy as well! (bring on the BIGPOWER sprint)
Most of the cars that are wrapped up in bad weather i wouldn't say are definitely not run of the mill, standard motors :!: :!: :!: :!:
I personally would rather leave the evo in the garage on a shite day but if something was arranged around the car it would be out
Some of us are polishers i suppose but if its used properly as well but shinny when it does all the better :!:

" Uh Betty you should of seen this car in Ely today!! it had stickers and stripes
all over it, and when it started up, the noise!!!, I could feel my teeth rattling!!!"

My post genuinely wasnt a dig or aggressive in nature. Apologies if I have hurt anyones feelings.
I understand the concept of looking after your car, and I too enjoy giving a car a damn good clean to make it look its best - dont forget how many shows I used to attend in the Bomber when it was running with a fair few polished parts under the bonnet !!
And Im not saying you have to drive a car hard in the rain on public roads either, Im responding to the threads title which was "Do you use your car in the rain" which is the thing I dont get. People paranoid about relatively (and I totally understand that one mans GTR is a dream whereas the next guy thinks nothing of a Gallardo and the next bloke idolises his Seicento Sporting etc) normal cars that arent "unique" just seems strange. I fully empathise with the concept of having "toys" but all mine are for a purpose, and any of them can be polished up for a meet or used to fetch my dad from the airport in the snow, without fear or unease.
The trouble is - I love cars, and as such I love to use them and enjoy that use immensely, even when not going fast sometimes (shock horror !!). If the urge took me right now I am very lucky to have the choice of some pretty weird wonderful and wacky machinery sitting on my drive, but at no time would the decision be affected by the weather, or if I felt it was going to get dirty or put extra miles on the clock. Thats all I mean.

I have issues !!!
....I used to be average, now I reminisce !!!

To be honest I understand what Bladey was saying - my 1 and a half year old car has had more "use" that some 10 yr old cars.... but it isnt an exotic car. It is a bit of jap crap that performs very well for what it costs. But I wanted the performance to explore the potential in all weathers on all types of roads/tracks.
Having said that I try and clean it as much as I can and love it when it is clean. But ........ I also love "fast mud" on it - nothing better than a really muddy, dirty car in my opinion. Not your normal road grime though .... proper grunge 8)

Just out of curiosity Dunc,
Whats your best time for washing the car ???
And have you found any particular wax/polish giving a lower drag coefficient for greater performance ???
J. Note to self - always have witty piss take out of Dunc at hand in case of upsetting the natives
