Option D ???
Only air filter I will ever use now is Apexi. They have almost as good flow characteristics as HKS - which have the highest - but with the best filtration available. My 2530's on the bomber had pitted compressor blades due to particulate damage after only 1000miles or so with the HKS ones, on noticing this I thought I would ask someone I trusted and when questioned the very reputable tuner said "All the HKS ones do that, but then thats the price for the most horsepower, Apexi is what I have on my car as they are almost as good for power but eliminate pretty much all the conataminants"
I have run only Apexi since on all my cars.
Just food for thought mate.

I have issues !!!
....I used to be average, now I reminisce !!!

Agreed,
HKS foam has a bad reputation for filtration. I think they have a new foam composite now, but another problem i have found is that the foam creeps and you end up with gaps around the edge that crap can get through.
Apexi are vey good.
Dunk, i will do you a kit using whatever filter you like. I have 70mm silicone bends and pipework in stock. I can run it to where you want it in your inner wing.

Thanks for the offer Eddy - I am just a bit hesitant on this because of the MAF sensor housing that would need to be made up. If got wrong it could have disastrous consequences and I wouldnt want to start blaming you. With something pre-built, length tuned and tested I can be relatively relaxed and non paranoid about it. I hope that makes sense and you understand.Fast Eddy wrote:Dunk, i will do you a kit using whatever filter you like. I have 70mm silicone bends and pipework in stock. The more I read about the APS kit the more I like it.
Agreed with the foam comments for HKS filters. The only reasons I went for the HKS Racing Suction induction kit I have on mine is that it replaces all the intake pipes, whereas the Apexi is just a bolt on cone filter.and the FD has 2 turbos therefore 2 cones (obvious I know!) and with the HKS kit they are mounted straight towards the front of the car. On the Apexi one of the cones is angled so it is behind the intercooler and above the radiator....not a cold place as you can imagine !!
Have been looking to replace mine in the future though.
I think with HKS if you are prepared to change the foam every couple of years and I always give it a spray with some K & N filter spray before fitting and every 6 months. Should be fine then.
Cant see any reason why the K&Ns should be any different than the Apexi though as I think the cones are made out of the same material.
Am a sucker for polished piping in the enginebay though so the K&N gets my vote !!!

I would change them alot sooner than 2 years. We always replace the element on an HKS as part of the service (4500 on an evo) :-DRX7 wrote: I think with HKS if you are prepared to change the foam every couple of years and I always give it a spray with some K & N filter spray before fitting and every 6 months.
