I will be honest. This may well become the shortest period of time that I have ever 'owned' a car. By this time next week, we'll know :D

I have been bending Gary@ APT's ear for ages about getting a cheap, cheap drift toy. Something to have a laugh in. I then remembered my theory that if you had a triangle with the words 'Fast, cheap and reliable' one word on each side, you can have two of them but never all three.............oh well, shit happens!!

On that basis I started 'a hunting' Elma Fudd style for a cheap rear wheel drive ditch finder. As luck would have it, I came to hear that young Lloyd wanted rid of a non-runner from the back of his Dad's gaff. More investigation ensued and it seemed borderline as to whether it would be worthwhile. It had some good bits
(stainless exhaust Image )
and some bad bits (the boot has so much rust it looks like a string vest) but on speaking to Gary, I thought it would be worth a punt. Something in the car or the idea must have awakened Garys curiousity as he promptly agreed to go halves. Ding dong :D

I asked David Bailey to supervise/help me and we loaded up, heading for Drayton, my mind filled with images of Origin Lab kitted S13's in candy red with polished alloy SSR Professors....................things looked a bit different when we got there :o I didn't take any photos as I panicked a little. The car was half parked under a tree and looked like it hadn't moved for quite a while, but in fairness to Lloyd, the photos he had sent me were accurate and the description honest. The price we had previously agreed was fair and as it was a non-runner, I hoped that the bits that were shiny could redeem my investment if the shit hit the fan. Dave and I pushed the car to no avail.......many months have siezed the brakes and no amount of pushing on a rapidly crumbling boot would urge the 200 from under the tree. There was litle or no choice but to use the winch on the trailer to try and move the car........30 minutes later we were at Garys and no sooner had I passed over the ceremonial biscuits then Gary and Chris tore into the car like a pair of car jackers

A small oversight on my part was that there was no battery or viscous fan either, so we needed a jump starter pack and some oil too......I tried to keep telling myself it would be fine. Time went by with tests being carried out, wires traced and me stripping parts off and miming where I would be assaulting the car with the circle cutter, coffee and biscuits consumed......I had agreed to call again later on for an update and for the pair of us (Gary and I) to try and source some cheap (read free) parts to get the car driftable for next Wednesday.

A lovely surprise this morning. I got a phone call from an unusually chipper Mr Hayward, a loud exhaust blaring away in the background. It was actually our car running, and damned fruity it was too burbling away nicely :thumb:

No real surprises all around. The car is tatty, Lloyds description of it was fair and honest and Gary knows 200s like I know my local bakery. This could be a right giggle and I'll get some pictures up at the weekend when I get the car down to her fighting weight.

I heard rumors of the this when I was up at APT the other day, during my prolonged stay and many intercooler hose induced returns

There's nothing that shouts "Poor Workmanship" more than wrinkles in the Gaffer tape.....
