Remote Avatars - Please Read !

Post by duncan »

An issue has been identified today that was causing some posts to run extremely slowly due to avatars from remote locations not being available.

In this instance it was avatars on GT4OC as their website has been down for several days now.

As we have now got storage on our server for avatars (you can upload them in admin) and it will even resize them as needed, we are inclined to remove the ability to have external avatars.

Any objections before I switch them off?

 no issues from me, although it might be a good idea to give a day or two's notice so people can save them locally before losing it forever if they havent got a copy already.

This will not remove any files that are uploaded to BigPower, it will simply stop avatars being remote such as:

Instead users should upload the file they want using the Modify Profile page and all will be well :D
