hi de ho...

Post by calibrax »

Hi! I joined the site a little while back and now finally got around to posting :)

I drive a mildly tweaked Rover 620ti, which by the standards of most on here is not particularly big on power (208bhp and 204lbft of torque), but it's a start! In the process of building an uprated engine for it, which will initially push the power to around 250bhp, and then the next target will be 300bhp. The T16 engine has been tweaked and fettled to 800bhp, although I don't expect to get close to that ;)

I had a couple of track sessions at the Performance Car Action Day at Castle Combe last weekend, and will be trying out Brands in the very near future :) Also looking for a diesel car for commuting... that way the 620ti can be used solely for fun, and having it off the road for tweaking won't be an issue.

I know that Rovers aren't the best regarded cars in the motoring world, but that just inspires me to keep on improving the car - after all, nobody expects them to be quick, so the element of surprise just adds to the fun!

Steve :D :D

Nowt wrong with Rovers - I seem to recall a certain chef hooning around in one until recently

Heheh.... yes, in fact I have that chef's uprated gearbox sitting here ready to fit to my car, once I get a chance :)

Yeah, it was great fun... airfield circuit, so it's flat and quick. It was my first real track day, I just wish I'd had more track time, only had two 15 minute sessions. By the end of the second session I'd learnt the circuit and was finding some confidence to push against the other more experienced drivers, and I found my car to be handling well, a touch of understeer at times, but had no real problems with grip. My brakes performed better than I expected too (standard, except for braided brake lines). I've certainly been bitten by the trackday bug though :-D
