What makes a GTR box go 'vague'

Post by Ben »

What does that mean I hear you ask ..

Well I've had my GTR for 2 years and the gear change has always been heavy and notchy ... kind of how I would expect it to have been, a man's gear change ....

But then

parked it up as usual, then when I got it out the other day the gear change has become really light .. almost vague, the car is engaging gear perfectly but it just seems too light.

So any idea's what could have broken, are there any selector rods? ...

To the GTR drivers, what is your change like ? .....

I have a quick shift on one of my cars and the change is heavy and notchy, the other without has a longer travel but a smooth change. But what could change over time to alter the feel I dont know.
Could be the plastic cup has broken up on the end of the gearstick ball

Same as Paul, I have a short shift kit on mine and it feels very positive and quite heavy. I would make sure that you haven't upped your dose of man steroids without realising, that will cause all sorts of problems :)

Seriously though, has this just come on all of a sudden> if the gears are still selecting and disengaging cleanly I would say that any fault is unlikely...........

If you've still got all gears with out any problems I'd guess maybe a mount has gone but not really sure about GTR's its what I

No nothing is wrong - it selects perfectly - probably better than before - it just feels too light now ... I was just so used to the slow, notchy style.

I prefer the clunky notchy feel. I'll get Gary to have a peak.

And yeh it's litterally just changed ... over night as they say.

Then again Jo did say it could be because of the MR2 - i.e. i'm driving that alot now and that has a nice notchy box.
