Frayz's ring review... In short

Post by frayz »

Zak and I got stopped at Dover (speedferry security) by some jobsworth twat who didnt seeem to enjoy our 25ltr drum of Methanol as much as we did. I was polite for as long as possible untill he said we would miss our boat even if we disposed of the Meth.

He then got introduced to the "C" word a Zak and I had to wait 4 hours for the next boat. :(

Laptop decided to throw a paddy on route and we subsequently couldnt change the map in the car :(

Arrived to find MADDOG had a few issues with his car of which we sorted late into the night.

Went to get fuel the next day only to find the petolstations card reader was buggered so we had to leave a passport as a deposit for our fuel and go get some cash :(

Got in 3 laps of the ring to then be pulled for noise 109dB static :( (100dB limit)

MADDOG kindly lent me a bung so we fitted that and got back out there, got in another 2 or so laps and then noticed the wheel bearing failure.

Spent the next 2 days calling the car a C**T and realised trying to get an Impreza wheel bearing in Germany was like getting a nosh from the pope.... :(

Then decided ADAC membership wasnt worth a carrot as we would have to wait up to 16 days to get the car home. :(

So on top of all that, i decided we was going to fix it shit or bust. So I spent 3 hours with a thread file kindly borrowed from Mineo @ Ring-Racing dressing the threads on the driveshaft that had stripped and dressing the caliper bolts that had get damagedon removal due to the excessive heat.

Finally got a bearing that Olly at CS Nurburg pressed in for us on the Tuesday morning only to find the hub was funked and we would have to replace that too on arrival back in the UK.

So on the whole it was a bit of a pisser,

So all that shite out of the way, we had a damn good laugh when the rest of the guys turned up and i manged to get in a low 9min lap after just 5 laps.

So with parts now on order for her to be back bigger and better, i cant wait to get back out there.

Special thanks to Zak, MADDOG, Jay and everyone else that helped us get home.

God i love the ring :D

Glad you got it sorted mate - you did seem more than a little pissed off when you were out there. It wasn't the best thing to see when we arrived at the hotel, your car up on 3 wheels :(

Bring on the next trip :D

Yeah, it will be okay.

I was genuinely gutted too as i was getting noticably quicker each lap.

Hopefully i'll be getting some rather tasty stoppers as replacments for the brembos and once she's all back together it will go even quicker :D

As George said it was not a great sight to be greeted with but has opened my eyes as to preventative maintenance on my car before the next trip.

Glad you and Zak enjoyed it even though luck was not on your side :thumb:

There's always next time :D

I like those very much - what do you expect those to cost? ... if you don't mind me asking.
