oh dear (sensitive people look away)

lastnight my oil filter take off plate decided to magically "come undone".

view the picture in all the gory fire extinguisher detail!
im not quite sure exactly how it happened, maybe the union simply came undone, or the threads lifted...very strange as it was put on there very tight. i think crankcase pressure had something to do with it. either way, it ended up with 90% of the engine oil outside of the engine.

edit: click on the picture to see the hi-res detail :)

Bollocks!

I did wonder why your MSN title had changed. Really sorry to hear this, I suppose you can take solace from the forethought of having a fire extinguisher to hand. So what's next Andy? Is there any chance of you getting ready in time for your planned trip?

Really sorry to hear that mate, I remember putting oil in my car and then forgetting to put the cap back on...only drove down the road and back luckily but it made a heck of a mess !!

Hope you get it sorted.

Jeesh Andy!

I have a (badly made) oil relocation pipe let go on mine a while back, but it looked nothing like that

Time to get busy with the Gunk me thinks.

Fingers crossed for ya that the lack of oil did no harm to the engine.

JEEEZZZ What a mess - I really am hoping the internals have survived it without any permanent damage - best of luck with the clean up
