Downward pointing exhaust tip?? Opinions guys???

Post by frayz »

Okay chaps.. for reasons i cant be arsed to go into, i need a new "quieter" exhaust. Currently 109dB static.

I'll be having a new setup made by Simpson race exhausts. I will have them make it to a specific DB level so i have no more worries on track.

However one idea ive been toying with for a while now is having the end of the tailpipe curved down. Now the exhaust needs replacing this is a perfect oppotunity to have it done. This is quite commonplace on big power scandinavian cars etc but no really seen over here in the UK.

I fully appreciate that loads of people will hate this (Diesel look) but i like it cos its different and serves a very good purpose of deflecting a large ammount of noise.

Any thoughts??

It's all on individual taste, based on looks alone I think it looks better coming straight out of the back without the curve down. If you want to be different why not try routing the exhausts out of the side? :-D

Driving a fast Jap import is like coming out of the closet, you might surprise some people, but in the end you are still gay.

I must admit I dont like it at all frayz.

The Miltek system I have on mine is plenty quiet enough if you want to consider that and seems to flow well too.

I agree with the guys above and dont really like them.

But its up to you mate, dont listen to us lot. The last thing you want is to be black flagged on a track !!

Apart from side exit as Fil recommended (which may be more difficult to silence) I would say go for it. It is different but you don't seem to be worried about trying a more individual route............having said that you're asking opinions on a forum like this :? Could always go for twin upswept like the old DTM cars :thumb:

Youre right mate, im not affraid to try something different with the car.

I do also fully appreciate that im asking for opinions on a forum and i accept any opinion, and wont moan if you guys dont agree with me. ha ha.

I appreciate all your opinions guys. Im just sick of seeing the normal style pipes and this is a little bit unusual that i think i could make look trick if its done right.

Cheers again :D

Not keen - it reminds me many of those modern town cars - lots of the smaller hatchbacks have the down swept pipes.

No No No and No!!

Looks like a diesel.

Could you not just put a removeable silencer in your exhaust sytem you already have?
