Well guy's this is how it went.....
First of all let me start with the excuses.
As some of you know, number 1 cylinder has lower compression and a leak down issue.
We also saw some issues on the event where the coolant was bubbling away in the expansion tank, suggesting that we may be getting head gasket leaking.... (Oh well time for the engine to come out)
So we ran lower boost for several of the practice runs, to conserve the engine and keep it reliable for the qualifier and the final.
For those unsure how TA works, you get practice sessions of around 15-20 minutes. This enables you to get the car setup etc.
The second practice on the day was your qualifying time and then places you in groups of 5, where you are sent out on track with gaps of approx 10 seconds, so that you don't get held up by anyone.
The Final is 1 lap round to the start, then a hot lap (your timed lap) and then round again to come back into the pits.
As you can see, there is a lot of pressure on to achieve a good time on the one hot lap!
The results.......
Saturday 2nd Practice - 1:25.610
Saturday 3rd Practice - 1:24.802
Sunday 1st Practice - 1:30. something
Sunday Qualifying - 1:25.235 placing me 9th
Sunday Hot Lap - 1:23.138 Placing me 6th
As you can see this was over 1.5 seconds quicker than any of my other lap times!!!!
The results for the top 6 are as follows, with their quoted BHP figures....
01 - Ron Kiddell R32-GTR 450bhp - great result ;o) 1:19.140
02 - Samuel Kerr Impreza P1 500bhp 1:20.666
03 - Kevin Atkins Evo6 600bhp 1:20.802
04 - George Beavers R32-GTR 600bhp 1:20.928
05 - Kevin Horsley Classic Impreza (bhp unknown) 1:21.852
06 - Mike Payne Classic Impreza 380bhp 1:23.138
But when you think that the Zen Performance Pro car's time was in the 1:14, very nearly 1:13, I have lots to go! lol
Over all I really couldn't have asked for more or better. A massive improvement in time when it counted. The car held together, despite it's obvious engine issues.
Not bad as my first track day was last February......
Well here's looking to the next event @Silverstone.....
I also need to thank again all those helped me get there and especialy those that helped me on the day.... :thumb:

Boost was running 1.5bar for the final. With a FMIC and engine repairs, we should be able to wind up to something like 1.8Bar :-Ddynamix wrote:Saving the best time to the end is the best way to go Mike - much better to improve with each session
Did you turn the boost back up for the final?
