designing a swirl pot and header tank cooling system?

Post by andycaca »

hi :)
as some of you know, i moonlight as an engineer with alexgt4 and we are soon going to begin making header tanks and swirl pots etc for our cars as the traditional weakness of the 3S-GTE is a poor coolant system when the engine is producing a lot of heat

here is where we come unstuck, as we dont have any first hand experience of race engines and how the cooling system should be laid out. the information i specifically need is as follows.

positioning of header tank and swirl pot
plumbing sequence, ie header tank to block to swirl pot to radiator back to header tank...or variances thereof
how the air bleed nipple on the swirl tank connects back to the header tank, or if it should go to the radiator or elsewhere

what i would really like is a diagram showing all the component parts and how they interconnect. ive had a good long look on the net and cant find anything over and beyond websites trying to sell me generic pots which i can make myself...i cant find definitive information on the how's and why's of designing a system from scratch

any advise, instruction or first hand experiences you could share with me would be great :)

No advise but the only thing I can think of is:

I am sure they cover it in there.

old thread revival :)
in the end, we went to fensport and extracted as much information from adrian as possible*. the header tank is now installed, along with bleed lines. :)

*read: copied his setup
