down in eastbourne at my mums and was thinking that I wouldnt have broadband but lo and behold ... a choice of two unsecured wifi networks to use

some people are so daft !!!

That they are - at my sister's fella's house - we couldn't get his hub working so we simply used one of the 7 or 8 we could see locally.

Yep I got an awesome util on my lappy which logs all the wireless to be had

I have just moved house, and while my broadband is being connected I too have resorted on my kind neighbours who decided to leave their wireless open to all :-D

BTW guys, go for a stronger encription than WEP if you can. WEP can be cracked in 10 mins with the right software

why do people bother to spend time 'cracking' wireless networks? Are they really that bothered about saving a few quid on a broadband subscription?

That, and also the fact that from the Wireless they have a much easier route to hack your computer and retrieve information it may hold. A personal computer is not very likely to be attacked in this fashion, but if some one wants a way in,,,, personal computers tend not to be very secure in themselves - but this is improving

If you want a 'secure network', do not use wireless :lol:

Aswell as any illegal doing's will be matched to the wireless hubs ip address.

You can spoof mac addresses - I was shown a program that cracks wep in about 10 seconds!.
