A photographic guided tour

Post by Stuart »

I popped down to the unit this morning first thing, to drop the stuff from the trackday and see just how the land lied on my Sierra. After clearing off the tyres, carpet, Skyline rear seat she started to look a bit better already.

Image

I forgot just how much I had done to the car and therefore thought I'd take a few pics and show off :D
Lightweight doors

Image
Custom dash and fully prepared interior. All sound proofing removed and simple alloy sheeting for flooring in its place.

Image
Corbeau seats. The cheapest FIA spec seats I could get my big arse in :thumb:

Image
We spent ages tidying up the engine bay stripping out anything that was surplus. Removed the loom and just replaced what was actually needed.....washer bottles out, single wiper conversion, headlamps out and so on. Getting the heater matrix out was a waste of time though.

Image
Custom strut brace. I couldn't buy one off of the shelf so I had one made.
Image
Image
Oil cooling is essential on these engines so a Mocal oil cooler was slapped in.

Image
Lightweight headlamp covers.

Image
Super lightweight bonnet
Image
With all bracing removed it does wobble a bit at high speeds...........just as well the Sierra doesn't do them then :thumb:

Image

I have made one decision today that will save a few quid short term. The car is currently fitted with Dunlop D01J semi slicks that have been on for a while. I'll kill these at Marham and then get some better tyres afterwards.

*Excuse the standard of the photos

Stu that is awesome the amount of work that you put into that sierra :)
Can't believe the amount of space under that bonnet.

I've owned the car for years having bought it bog standard as an ex-owners club show car (I wonder what he'd think of it now?) I had very little disposable income at the time so I just drip fed money into it as and when. If I'm honest I was far happier to spend

I think going back will help to rekindle your enjoyment of track days. As for what the original owners opinion, i would only show him if you want to make a grown man cry :-D
The guy that we bought our car off in spite the fact that it had been sat in his barn for 6 1/2 years, tried endlessly to talk us out of turning it into a track car

I've just totalled up a shopping list of roll cage bits, diffs with better acceleration ratios, new pads, full service, seat runners and general odds and sods (including a posh new paint job using rattle cans and rollers) and it comes to
