My MR2 MKII

Heres a quick pic of my 1990 MR2. Its a JDM GT spec 2.0 Turbo. Mostly stock for now, but I have a few upgrades planned in the near future. Its also in need of a good valet.

My last MR2 MKI. Its a 1988 supercharged car. A few of the mods on it were: 16" wheels, Eibach springs, Tokico struts, Russell SS brake lines, High & Tight urethane full suspension bushings, 16mm rear sway bar, 180mm crank pulley, Grunt Box, boost gauge, H&T master cylinder brace, 93+ shifter, MKII seats, Buddy Club lip, 89 LED spoiler, Illegal garage clutch

That red mark 1 is stunning......I have never driven a supercharged one and can only imagine that that was pretty responsive. Out of interest, was the car as twitchy as the magazines made on? I always thought it was a typical mid engined rear wheel drive set up..........or was it more dangerous than that?

I never had any handling issues with the MKIs I owned. (4 to date) the 85-86 cars were claimed to be prone to "snap oversteer" and Toyota revised the rear suspension geometry in 87 to "fix" this. They also removed the rear swaybar from 87+ on, with the exception of 89 SC cars.
I really enjoyed my 88 SC, and with the huge increase in torque thanks to a massive 180mm crank pulley I could get the rear to step out smoothly with the throttle.
My MKII is a much different car than the MKI. More refined and a little numb when compared to the MKI, but with a much more capable motor.

I chose to sell the MKI when I came over from the states. I debated for a long time whether I should store it or ship it over. MKIs don't fair well in the UK climate and I would have hated to see it rust away.

Pics of the MKI interior. The seats are from a 93 MKII. Swapping them was fairily simple, I merely removed the sliders from the old seats and welded them on to the newer ones.

I preferred the F15 in the background !!!!

But always loved MR2 Mk2s. A really nice looking sports car.
