Big Power karters went to Lakeside Karting.

Post by madenglishman »

During the week Stu called to say Ron Kiddell had been on the phone and for his birthday he was having a little bash at Lakeside karting and some of his customers had been invited for a little thrash 8) Sadly with Stu's work commitments I now needed another racing partner...........who to ask I wonder...........I called Ron to tell him of the new driver line up and Dick Dastardly aka Trev was onboard

We set off early.......way too early infact so we had a full english while we waited  . To say the conditions were hardcore when we got to Essex would be an understatement. It was raining and the track was drenched, just what you need when your on slicks and in the twin engined karts.

Lovely Track

The format was that you had 3 practice slides.....I mean laps :-D Then you had 4 heats of 6 laps and the fastest 12 of the day went into the 10 lap final. There were 8 karts in each heat and the drivers were mixed up each heat so you got to race everybody.

The qualifiers were a great event and the banter flowed as it does....Heat 8 was our finest hour, only 2 drivers got 57 sec laptimes and that was the 2 Norfolk boys even pushed Ron into 6th :D

If any of you would like to guess who got the first black flag of the day I'll give you 10p..........yep it was Trev. He had to come into the pits for a bollocking for his "aggressive driving and use of kerbs"...LOL..in all fairness it was almost impossible to avoid people because there was no grip. Shortly after, on his last heat, his day ended in truly spectacular fashion :rotflol: He was black flagged again and I could see that it was not wanted he wanted to see :o ...he entered the pits and combusted. It was quite a sight :argue: :argue: and it ended with him leaving the kart where it was and shouting "well I'll f**king stick the f**ker up your arse you tw*t"....He returned to the pits to a cheer :D

I somehow made it into the final thanks to my adopted tactic of the day.........go wide and turn in front of everyone cutting their noses off and then bouncing off the outside man back into the middle of the track :thumb: Below is the tactic in full effect, I'm in the blue suit knocking Ron (red helmet) and one of the skyline lads into the bumpy stuff :bandit:

Same tactic but going very wrong

Check the wet track :o

I finished 6th out of 12 in the final so was happy with that, the final was won by the birthday boy himself with Darren Bly coming 2nd and Darren Hawkins 3rd. Even though Ron is older than coal he sure can pedal :notworthy: Darren kept him honest and the 2 of them in this years Time Attack, flying the RK Tuning flag, should make for some great racing

Also while we were there a group of 'special' people were also there on day release....they behaved quite well, a couple started getting abit lively but they were quickly put in jackets and put back on the Dolphin bus :-D

Top draw :thumb:

How gutted am I that I had to work today with the finest plebians that the Shire could throw at me

Nice to see the 'Hand Grenade' kept his standards up and I can only imagine the look on the marshalls face :D So Mr Kiddel can do karts as well as GTR's eh...........quick is quick I suppose.

A great write up mate and some lovely pictures. Maybe next time we'll have those boys up at our 'manor' just for a rematch!

Well done to Trev !!! Outburst sounds well deserved !!!

Good on you though guys, great laptimes as well.

Thinking that may be a good choice of venue for a BP summer trip.

The best part is that we can bring the missus' and they can wander round the shops while we go karting (excuse the pun) !!

Everyones a winner !!
