It died on me last week, was watching a film and then it went off. Turned it back on and got these hundreds of tiny squares on the screen and it crashes. Now it doesnt even turn on (has the red lights round the on switch).
Must say though I rang Microsoft yesterday and the phone got answered straight away, told them what the symptoms were, the chap got me to check a few things before saying 'its a hardware fault and needs to be sent back'. They then told me I needed to only send back the console (minus the harddrive so keep my saves...hurrah), using the instructions they were sending me and collection through UPS. Very helpful, I was impressed.
The bad news though, have to send it away and it will be gone 15 days !!! Aaarrrrgggghhhhh what will I do in an evening lol
At least it will give you guys a chance to practice !!
My 360 has died !!!! ****UPDATED****

I'm in the same boat Gareth, except the customer service I got was shocking. Certainly interesting to see things from a consumers point of view. In this respect Sony annhilate Microsoft. Their exchange scheme means that in the event of a 'terminal' fault, they will deliver a replacement unit to your door within 48 hours and collect the duff one at the same time.

I wouldnt worry mate, they didnt even want me to send a copy of the receipt when I sent it back.
They probably know when its been sold by serial number, so you should be ok, all it means is if it is out of warranty then you pay for the repair.
I have spoken to people on xbox live and they say they have sent consoles back, but that may have been the case with other consoles but because we werent chatting to loads of people who had them then I dont think we would have known.
