My car of choice is a Mk4 Celica, with a turbo charged 2 litre engine and permanent 4WD. It has been modified slightly by me and a few friends in an attempt to make a half decent track car on a limited budget. the ethos here is to keep things fairly cheap, cheerful and extract as much performance as can be measured in a variety of different ways without breaking the bank. my budget is no more than

The idea behind this mod was to give me some useful bootspace. previously, there wasnt much room to put things in the boot area because there was a tyre well that everything fell into. with the addition of a chequerplate floorpan i can now carry things in the boot. my intention is to make a speaker box that is removable so i can listen to music in the car, yet remove it when on track.
procedure was simple.
obtain a 2Mx1M sheet of 4mm ally chequerplate, cut a cardboard template of the boot floor.
using 15mm ERW box section mild steel, construct a very simple latticework which is welded to the bootfloor, not before drilling and tapping suitable mounting holes for the ally sheet.
as the fuel tank is right underneath the area i was welding, the tank was dropped a few inches and a soaking wet rag placed under the welding site.
a little jiggery pokery and this is the final result
next to come is a grid system allowing the aforementioned speakerbox to clip into place, as well as my toolbox and other bits and pieces as necessary. i dare say a cargo net will find its way in there too
additional weight is about 1.2kgs for the steel frame and 5kg for the ally sheet.

made a custom subframe for the passenger side seat today, so alex doesnt whine like a BIATCH that he's sitting in the dash
made from 10x40 black flat mild steel. will be remade in the same profile ally when we get stock
no pics as yet, maybe tomorrow. its not very impressive to look at and weighs about 5kgs, but its solid and positions the chair in the right place

Where the hell did you get that cage? Looks superb and must offer really good rigidity.
Is your general plan evolutionary for 2007 or do you have any major changes lined up (Don't worry, we won't tell Alex :thumb: )

There are no major changes planned for the car. That is, unless the engine blows up! It's quite happily running 1.3bar now with no real problems. The major change in this case will be a change to a ST205 head, manifolds, ecu and turbo. I wont be able to run quite as much boost but the fuelling will be much better
I'll just be doing little pieces here and there. I've finally bought a car stereo so the next job is to fit the 6x9's I used to have in the mighty fiesta There's still some weight saving to be made, for example the white bonnet needs the struts removed.
Edit: The cage is from a Corolla rally demonstrator. I bought it third hand (hardly anything is brand new in my car) and had a mate weld it up. This is the time before I was able to do this kind of thing myself.
Edit2: I'll have a new set of 4-pot brakes to go on the front soon, then when the discs wear out I'll make the biggest discs possible fit underneath the lightweight 16" wheels.
